CEDAR PARK, Texas — Cedar Park unveiled a new Public Safety Training Center Wednesday for its police, fire and emergency management departments. The facility includes multiple classrooms, an emergency operations center and a tactical training area with movable walls to simulate a variety of floorplans. Lt. David Amidon said the facility is a game changer. “In years past, we had to rely on outside facilities for training,” he said. “The issues with that are scheduling and lack of facilities around.

AUSTIN, Texas — After about 10 years, P. Terry’s is saying goodbye to their flagship location to make room for the I-35 expansion. P. Terry’s founder and CEO Patrick Terry said the location, which is open 24 hours a day, will shut down on June 28. TxDOT’s I-35 Capital Express Central project plans to add two extra lanes to the highway, which will act as transit lanes for CapMetro buses and carpoolers.

Texas shelters warn bans and vet-only meds could force euthanasia in screwworm fight

AUSTIN, Texas — Animal shelters in Texas are beginning to worry about the growing New World screwworm infestation. Of the 12 confirmed screwworm cases across the country, 11 are in Texas. Austin Pets Alive!, a local nonprofit animal shelter, has been redesigning its system after Gov. Greg Abbott declared a state of disaster in response to the growing infestations. The organization worries it will soon exhaust its resources in trying to combat the flesh-eating parasite.
