July 4, 2026, marks 250 years since our nation’s Founding Fathers signed the Declaration of Independence, making this the ideal time to refresh and renew your knowledge of American history. To commemorate the anniversary, Coos Bay Library will have special displays throughout the year featuring books and movies focused on the Revolutionary War, the Founding Mothers and Fathers, the Oregon Trail, and many other topics related to the history of the United States.

Another school year has come and gone, which means it’s our favorite time of year at the library— the Summer Reading Program (SRP)! Our Youth Services Librarians have been hard at work for months lining up great performances, fun activities, and fabulous prizes to go with this year’s theme: Plant a Seed, Read! So if you’re scratching your head over your summer schedule, read on for a sneak peek of some of the FREE entertainment we’re providing for this year’s festivities.

When you think of Coos Bay Public Library (CBPL), your first thought may be our many fun and functional materials or the scores of free programs we offer each month. Maybe you’ve been meaning to join a book club or attend a program, but everyday obstacles like school, work, or family responsibilities have stood in the way.
