An Army veteran who has served around the world has joined the team of a Derbyshire rail firm as it looks to the future. Bruce Spencer has joined the team at MTMS in Swadlincote as the group strategic lead where he will look at the business’s long-term aims. Bruce has dedicated most of his working career to the Army as both a regular and reserve officer. He travelled the world for 38 years after first being commissioned into the Worcester and Sherwood Foresters.

Ex-addict looking people to share stories for BBC homeless documentary to be filmed in Burton

A former drug addict who found himself sleeping on the streets of Burton after getting off a train at random in the town is returning to help the homeless 50 years on from the lowest point in his life. Stephen Smith, now 75, was a young man who was addicted to amphetamines and living on the streets with no place to call home when he ended up in Burton, he has revealed.
