Freelance reporter for my hometown newspaper

Yes

How is social media changing news?

It's allowing news to be reported faster (not always a good thing) and it allows for false information to spread quickly

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Peter Parker or Lois Lane

What does it mean to be a journalist?

Holding people in power accountable, lifting up the voices of people who are silenced and trying to present the facts when reporting

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

E-mail

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Photoshop/Lightroom, Photomechanic, Google based applications (mail, sheets, docs etc)

What's your favorite social network?

Twitter, Instagram and (more recently) Tik Tok

Who do you wish followed you?

I don't know.

Why did you become a journalist?

I love to tell stories and inform people of the events going on around them.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

Yes, but not really. It wasn't much of a paper. It was a class and we only published two or four issues.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

I'm most proud of the stories I'm able dive into and provide context to my readers. The Reading paramedic shortage for example.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Never stop learning.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Anytime

What's the best pitch you ever got?

I dont know. I get good pitches all the time. I'm usually looking for a pitch that tells a story that is important to the community I cover.

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

A PR official pitched me a story idea that was a story I wrote a couple months prior to them pitching me.

What's your favorite drink?

Earl Grey Tea

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Outside hiking, camping or disc golfing.

Washington Post, SpotlightPA and Pennsylvania Capital-Star
