Jericho Zafra is a graduate of Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and a freelance journalist. He was also a former News Reporter Intern. His columns appeared in the leading newspaper in the Philippines and a US-based digital magazine discussing gender, politics, and journalism. Since 2019, Jericho has been immersed in gender and journalism studies to represent the gender minority in his country.

MANILA – The National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea (NTF-WPS) on Friday denounced the reported interference by Chinese maritime forces with a Philippine rotation and resupply (RoRe) mission to Ayungin Shoal on Sept. 24. In a statement, the NTF-WPS said China Coast Guard (CCG) and People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLA Navy) vessels hindered the routine mission to deliver essential supplies and rotate personnel stationed aboard BRP Sierra Madre (LS57).

2026 BSKE off; Marcos signs 2-year extension for barangay, SK officials

MANILA – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has signed into law a measure postponing the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) scheduled for Nov. 2 and extending the terms of incumbent officials to five years. Republic Act No. 12326, or the Act Fixing the Term of Office of Barangay Officials and Members of the Sangguniang Kabataan to Five Years, sets the next BSKE on the second Monday of November 2028.

MANILA – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday confirmed that he had signed the papers granting Mary Jane Veloso an absolute pardon. “Pinirmahan ko na,” Marcos told reporters in Samar. (I’ve signed it already.) The confirmation came two days after Bataan 2nd District Rep. and House Appropriations Committee Senior Vice Chair Albert Garcia said Marcos was “seriously considering” granting Veloso an absolute pardon on humanitarian grounds.
