BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Thankfully the intense heat and humidity is coming to an end today. Temperatures will still be warm and summery but cooler than the past three days. Dew points will drop as winds shift to out of the north today, but wildfire smoke will move in with the drier air. A large plume of wildfire smoke, which looks like it is a combination from Canadian wildfires and the Colorado wildfires, will move in Saturday morning and afternoon that will impact air quality in our region.

ESSEX, Vt. (WCAX) - A viewer in Essex wanted to know what kind of lightning lit up Vermont’s sky Wednesday night, and the answer involves two of the most common types of strikes. Leslie from Essex asked, “What kind of lightning was happening tonight? It went on for a long time and just kept lighting up the sky! I couldn’t stop watching it.” The WCAX First Alert Weather Team said Vermont saw roughly 9,000 lightning strikes from all the storms that passed through Wednesday night.

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - With plenty of heat and humidity in place, we continue to track the potential for strong to severe storms Thursday evening in Vermont, New York’s North Country and northern New Hampshire. The most likely window to see stronger storms will be through 9 p.m., although some storms could hold together through midnight. Storms do not look as widespread as they were on Wednesday, but the overall weather pattern remains unsettled.
