A shooting at a popular World Cup fan zone in San Jose, California, left one person dead and another critically injured Sunday, casting an abrupt and violent end to what had been a lively tournament gathering spot. The shooting took place at San Pedro Square, a downtown entertainment district that had been hosting World Cup watch parties throughout the tournament. No matches were being screened at the time.
