STURBRIDGE – A woman who crashed her car into a Sturbridge hotel and opened fire was killed by a self-administered gunshot wound, District Attorney Joseph Early said Thursday, June 18, at an afternoon news conference. Dudley override fails as voters reject $2 million increase by wide margin DUDLEY – A proposal to override Proposition 2½ in order to raise nearly $2 million to support town operations failed to pass in the annual town election Monday, June 15. The override, which asked residents to support increasing property taxes to support an additional $1.985 million in funding for next fiscal year's municipal budget, was defeated by a 3-to-1 margin, with 307 votes for it and 937 against it.
WORCESTER – After a period that saw six students commit suicide between summer of 2021 and winter of 2022, leaders at Worcester Polytechnic Institute knew they had to do more to address student mental health. However, four years later, the school has seen two student suicides during the 2025-26 academic year, showing some students are still falling through the cracks. In July 2021, Jiyang "Jeffrey" Wu, a senior, died by suicide.
