Swastika flag raised at NYU leads to hate crime charges for Connecticut man

Click here for updates on this story New York (WCBS, WLNY) -- A man faces hate crime charges for allegedly hoisting a swastika flag at NYU last month, police said. Alexander Stepnowsky was arrested Tuesday. The 23-year-old Connecticut resident, in his fourth year at NYU this year, turned himself in to police. Stepnowsky was charged with burglary as a hate crime, criminal trespass as a hate crime, and aggravated harassment.

Staten Island shipyard explosion, fire leaves 1 dead, over 30 hurt

Click here for updates on this story STATEN ISLAND, New York (WCBS) -- One person died and over 30 people, mostly members of the New York City Fire Department, were hurt in an explosion and fire at a Staten Island shipyard Friday. The person who died was a civilian, according to officials. One other civilian was injured, along with at least 34 FDNY members, including a fire marshal who was critically hurt and a firefighter who was seriously hurt, officials said.

Life in prison plus 70 years for 19-year-old convicted in deadly Columbia mall double shooting

The man convicted in a deadly double shooting near The Mall in Columbia was sentenced Friday. Howard County Circuit Court Judge Stephanie Porter sentenced Emmetson Zeah, 19, to two life sentences, plus 70 years, in the killings of Michael Robertson, 16, and Blake McCray, 15. What happened at the mall Robertson and McCray were shot dead at a bus stop outside the mall back in February, 2025. Zeah was arrested a short time later.
