Lou Nanne on What Makes Players Great
Lou Nanne is a Minnesota hockey legend. He was an All-American, league MVP and remains the first and only defenseman to ever win the WCHA scoring title while at the University of Minnesota. After officially becoming a U.S. citizen in 1968, he captained the ‘68 U.S. Olympic Team in addition to two more national squads.
Unwritten Rules of Pond Hockey
There’s no place like the pond. The homemade backyard rink with floodlights. The meticulously shoveled sheet on the lake. The public park. And toasty warming houses with fresh hot cocoa. It’s that wonderful time of year in the State of (Outdoor) Hockey. A rite of passage for most of us Minnesotans, whether you’ve never play an organized game of hockey in your life, or you play for the Minnesota Wild, like Eden Prairie’s Nick Seeler and Bloomington’s Zach Parise. The pond is where the heart is.

Pond Hockey with Pat Micheletti
The State of Hockey’s beating heart, the vessel that can breathe life into the sport and its players during the dead of winter, flows outside in the cold and snow where shinny hockey (or pickup) games with friends and neighbors are played on the local outdoor rinks, ponds, and creeks that populate the state of Minnesota. Outdoor hockey supplies a purity to the game of hockey that can’t be found in the manicured world of indoor arenas.
Would You Leave 15 Peewees Home Alone?
The presence of adults in the locker rooms is critical to maintaining a safe and positive environment. Over the past five years, it has become clear that more than half of all SafeSport incidents reported each year occur in locker rooms. In all but a few cases, there was no locker room monitor present.
