Everything to Know About Riding with Your (Big) Dog
22 Sep2022 Written by Jessica Stone | Photos by Greg Stone and Victor Hugo Xalcot. Posted in Tech-n-Tips I ride a BMW G650GS and my 75-pound German Shepherd, Moxie, rides pillion in her RUFFLY K9 Moto Cockpit, a motorcycle dog carrier we designed. Over the last several years we’ve traversed thousands of miles through Mexico and Central America together.
Archaeologists determined the step-by-step path taken by the first people to settle the Caribbean islands Original
For the millions of people around the world who live on islands today, a plane or boat can easily enough carry them to the mainland or other islands. But how did people in the ancient past first make it to distant islands they couldn’t even see from home? Many islands around the world can be reached only by traveling hundreds or even thousands of miles across open water, yet nearly all islands that people live on were settled by between 800 to 1,000 years ago.
Reevaluating human colonization of the Caribbean using chronometric hygiene and Bayesian modeling
Abstract Human settlement of the Caribbean represents the only example in the Americas of peoples colonizing islands that were not visible from surrounding mainland areas or other islands. Unfortunately, many interpretive models have relied on radiocarbon determinations that do not meet standard criteria for reporting because they lack critical information or sufficient provenience, often leading to specious interpretations.
Faster Than My Paws Can Take Me
Courtesy of Jessica Stone I’m sitting beside the two-wheeled travel kennel and waiting as patiently as I can. The patience is not easy for me. Finally, Mama Bear says the words I’m waiting for: “Saddle up!” I leap onto my cockpit on the travel kennel. The travel kennel is still sleeping but soon it will wake up. Mama Bear says turn so I turn, then sit so I sit, then lay so I lie down. Then Mama Bear passes the straps through my harness.
Why you need to do this epic Israel long-distance trek
If all those people hiking the Camino, the Pacific Crest Trail, and the West Highland Way have inspired you to pack a bag and take a long-distance walk, know that there is a lesser-known path in the Middle East that is just as rewarding and much less crowded. The Israel National Trail is a 683-mile hiking trail that crosses Israel between the southern and northern borders.
Do You Accept This Challenge? - Ruff On The Road
Written by Jessica Stone. Posted in Riders After my third crash of the morning my legs turned to jelly. My knees gave out and I dropped into a cross-legged heap beside my motorbike at the edge of the sandy road. My motorbike, Moxie Thumper—a 2013 BMW F650GS, which I’d bought only a few months before—lay where she fell in a deep furrow of sand. I looked ahead of her and saw that just another meter or two and I would have been through the bad stuff and back on terra-reasonably-firma once again.
6 reasons why traveling with kids is better than not
A lot of people seem to think that you can’t travel with your kids. Believe me, they are missing out. It’s not as easy as tripping around by yourself, but ease isn’t the reason you got into parenthood anyways. Having the kids along can enhance the trip in many ways. I’ve had people look at me like I’m crazy for traveling with my kids, especially when they were babies. “Isn’t it dangerous?” is what I heard most.
11 quirks of every Israeli husband
Everyone else is a nudnik or worse…even when they make the same unexpected stops, lane changes, and U-turns that he does. Tomatoes, cucumbers, red peppers, green onions, cilantro, and lots of olive oil. I like to think those tiny cubes are designed so you get a good mix in every bite, not as a sneaky way of keeping women busy in the kitchen. It’s amazing how quickly you get good at making salad the Israeli way.
Ways to make a Canadian like you
We don’t know who had the patience to boil down the first 40 liters of liquid siphoned out of a maple tree to make just one liter of maple syrup, but the French Canadians seem to have had a hand in it, and we’re inordinately proud of the finished product. Ok, it’s sugar, but it has a special flavour, and with a little imagination it can be considered healthy. So, go ahead and drown your pancakes in it, try it in coffee, on your bacon — the possibilities are endless, and we’ll love you for it.
Why we Israelis travel in packs
That noisy group sitting around the table, sharing a home-cooked meal and speaking something that sounds like guttural French? Yup, probably Israelis. If you get to know them, they’ll usually break down to twos or threes, but it’s not unusual to see 10 or 15 Israelis hanging out together, at just about any decent travel destination. It’s not an organized tour, it just happens. So why? Not really.
