Mr. Jong is pursuing a master’s degree at the School of Advanced International Studies, Johns Hopkins University. He was most recently a Visiting Postgraduate Research Fellow at the Harvard Medical School Department of Global Health and Social Medicine. Instead of the “fire and fury” President Donald Trump warned of, a devastating tropical storm inundated North Korea at the end of August 2018 and again in 2020. The 2018 flood was preceded by a heatwave and followed by flash floods. In August of 2020, forty-nine consecutive days of rain severely flooded the Kangwon, North and South Hwanghae provinces of North Korea.
