Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

Editor of my own website. For someone else: Researcher on the Foreign Desk at The Times.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

With a 'hello' to j.moore@newsweek.com.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Now that would be telling.

What's your favorite social network?

Twitter: it's an incredible information source for a journalist.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

My profile of the first victim of the ISIS truck attack in Nice.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Take Mark Twain's advice: 'the best way to get ahead is to get started'. Get writing on what you're passionate about as soon as possible.

When's the best time to pitch you?

All day, everyday.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

New York Times (international).
