Sessile land plants exhibit remarkable plasticity to cope with environmental fluctuations, relying not only on genetic variation but also on epigenetic strategies such as DNA methylation. While acute stresses are known to alter the plant methylome (Zhang et al. 2022), much less is understood about how moderate, seasonally relevant shifts in photoperiod and temperature influence DNA methylation within and across plant tissues.
