1. Introduction The acceleration of industrialization and urbanization has resulted in an increasing area of soil contaminated by heavy metals (HMs), which may lead to adverse impacts on both human health and the environment [1]. Nickel (Ni) is one of the 23 metallic pollutants that make up 3% of the total composition of the Earth [2]. It has been reported that approximately 30,000 tons of nickel per year are emitted into the atmosphere from its natural sources and then accumulate in soil [3].
