Analysis of the Structure and Genesis of the June 23, 2016, Funing Tornado Based on 100‐Meter‐Scale Numerical Simulation
1 Introduction Tornadoes are powerful whirlwinds generated by funnel-shaped clouds that connect the base of thunderstorms to the ground, triggered by strong convective storms. They often occur together with other convective systems such as thunderstorms, hail, and intense rainfall. Their radii range from tens to hundreds of meters. The maximum wind speed at the center can exceed 140 m/s (Bluestein et al. 2015), and the tangential wind speed can reach 100–200 m/s (Lemon and Doswell 1979).
