The present cross-sectional study was conducted in Eastern China from March to June 2021. The sample was selected by a stratified cluster random-sampling method. Two cities were randomly selected from each province. In each selected city, two residential areas were randomly selected for sampling. Between180 and240 residents were recruited from each residential area (Fig. 1).

Findings In this secondary analysis of 7918 participants in the Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention Trial with a median follow-up of 4 years, participants with higher baseline risk of probable dementia or amnestic mild cognitive impairment (MCI) gained greater absolute cognitive benefit from intensive vs standard SBP treatment.

Key Points Question What is the incidence and mortality burden of non–ventilator-associated hospital-acquired pneumonia (NV-HAP) in US hospitals? Findings In a retrospective cohort analysis of 284 hospitals using an electronic surveillance definition applied to detailed clinical data, there was an estimated 0.55 NV-HAP events per 100 hospitalizations, inpatient mortality of 22.4%, and an additional 8.0% discharged to hospice. NV-HAP may account for an estimated 7.3% of all hospital deaths.
