1 Introduction Sulfones and their derivatives serve as versatile scaffolds in a wide range of chemical transformations. Among them, sulfones containing an oxindole skeleton have become prominent scaffolds in pharmaceutical research (Scheme 1a) [1, 6]. Therefore, intensive efforts have been made to access oxindole-based sulfones [7, 16]. In recent years, the renewed interest in radical chemistry has helped overcome long-standing barriers in organic synthesis [17, 21].
