Exosomal ORF3a mediates lung-liver axis to dysregulate hepatic lipid metabolism in mild COVID-19
Dear Editor, The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), the causative agent of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), triggered a global pandemic and continues to pose a major global health challenge. While SARS-CoV-2 primarily infects the respiratory tract, it can also damage other organs, including the liver, during both acute infection and long COVID1. Liver involvement significantly increases the severity and mortality rate of COVID-192.
A cough sound-based deep learning algorithm for accessible prompt detection of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with smartphones
|
Abstract Early COPD diagnosis is vital for effective management, yet conventional tools such as professional spirometers are often inaccessible in resource-limited settings. We present Cough Search, a smartphone-based deep learning algorithm that uses voluntary cough sounds to detect COPD, offering a cost-efficient and accessible diagnostic approach. The presented COPD detection algorithm (Cough Search) employs a transformer-based neural network model.

Multiple infections with Omicron variants increase breadth and potency of Omicron-specific neutralizing antibodies - Cell Discovery
Abstract Despite high vaccination rates, highly evolved Omicron variants have caused widespread infections and, in some cases, recurrent infections in the human population. As the population continues to be threatened by new variants, it is critical to understand how the dynamic cross-reactive antibody response evolves and affects protection.
Autologous transplantation of P63+ lung progenitor cells in patients with bronchiectasis: A randomized, single-blind, controlled trial
Introduction Non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis (hereinafter referred to as “bronchiectasis”) is a severe chronic respiratory disease characterized by permanent dilation of the airways, recurrent infection, persistent pulmonary epithelium damage, and inflammation.1 The burden of bronchiectasis on patients is profound, with most suffering from daily symptoms of cough, sputum production, and intermittent exacerbations, ultimately leading to respiratory failure and diminished quality of life.2...
Real-world clinical outcomes of tixagevimab/cilgavimab in the Omicron outbreak in China: baseline characteristics and interim analysis of the CLEAR study | Virology Journal | Full Text
In this observational, real-world study, patients who received tixagevimab/cilgavimab from July 9, 2022, to December 30, 2022, in Hainan, China, were included. The inclusion criteria were patients who received tixagevimab/cilgavimab either before the initiation of the study or were prescribed with tixagevimab/cilgavimab thereafter. The patients participating in interventional clinical trials for SARS-CoV-2 prophylactics or treatments were excluded.
Neutralizing activity of BBIBP-CorV vaccine-elicited sera against Beta, Delta and other SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern - Nature Communications
Abstract The global pandemic of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has resulted in the generation of variants that may diminish host immune responses to vaccine formulations. Here we show a registered observational clinical trial (NCT04795414), we assess the safety and immunogenicity of the inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine BBIBP-CorV in a cohort of 1006 vaccine recipients. No serious adverse events are observed during the term of the study.
Epidemiological and clinical characteristics of 99 cases of 2019 novel coronavirus pneumonia in Wuhan, China: a descriptive study
Summary Background In December, 2019, a pneumonia associated with the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) emerged in Wuhan, China. We aimed to further clarify the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of 2019-nCoV pneumonia. Methods In this retrospective, single-centre study, we included all confirmed cases of 2019-nCoV in Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital from Jan 1 to Jan 20, 2020.
