Interview
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Simple and brief. Just a working title and a few sentences about what you're going to cover. I'll ask if I need more info than that.
Why did you become a journalist?
I started out doing books and found that magazine work was a great way to get my name out there as well as build a level of authority.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Nope. Honestly, I don't think we even had a school newspaper.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Diversify the markets you contribute to, just in case one or another closes up shop unexpectedly.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Out on a hike with my wife or kicking back on the couch with a movie.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That all preppers are crazy nut jobs. Some are, without a doubt, but most are just regular folks looking to be better prepared for a crisis.
