If you’re a newcomer to our blessed town, you may be surprised to learn that a few years back there was an official attempt to ban this newspaper from Town Hall, an act that drew national attention and condemnation. In 2018, then-Mayor David Augustyn was unhappy that our reporting exposed the Town’s land-for-credits scheme in East Fonthill for all to see—coverage that later won the Voice top honours in our newspaper association’s province-wide annual investigative reporting competition.

Independent filmmaker Ansel Faraj started young, and he still is young. The writer/director just turned 29, but you wouldn’t know that looking at his resumé, which already is into double digits on directorial credits. His latest outing, Loon Lake, which is now available on Blu-ray and video on demand, is a horror-thriller based on an actual local legend in Minnesota, which he co-wrote with Nathan Wilson, who co-stars in the movie with co-producer Kelly Erin Decker.

Franco Nero is without question one of the most prolific actors in modern cinema, having appeared in nearly 240 features starting in the 1960’s. The son of a carabinieri (police officer), Nero was born in Parma on November 23, 1941. His first major international exposure was in John Huston’s 1966 film The Bible, in which the young Nero played Abel, is murdered by Richard Harris’ Cain.
