What was your first job as a journalist?
My first real journalist job was with the San Francisco Bay Area PBS affiliate KQED. I covered science happenings in the Bay Area.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
IBM Selectric in grad school
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
I use the Microsoft Office software, and Adobe Pro.
What's your favorite social network?

Why did you become a journalist?
I found out early in life that I could use a pen and paper to understand myself, my world, and to connect me with other people.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
I wrote a blog post about the people of Shishmaref, a tiny fishing Village in Alaska that is being destroyed by rising sea levels.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Ask questions all the time and don't worry about sounding stupid.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Any time after 9 am and before 10 pm (Pacific)
What's your favorite drink?
gin and tonic
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
walking, watching movies
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
After reading a piece I wrote about Energy and the Environment, people sometimes miss that I write about spirituality and other topics.
