Jim Gladstone’s Biography

Jim Gladstone is currently Senior Editor at PASSPORT Magazine where he covers travel, hospitality and books; theater critic/performing arts writer at the Bay Area Reporter; and a freelance contributor to other publications. He is the author of two books, a novel and a collection of travel games, as well as a contributor to several fiction and non-fiction anthologies.

A professional writer for over 30 years, his work has appeared in publications including The New York Times Book Review, Billboard, SPIN, and many major daily newspapers (Chicago, Atlanta, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Detroit, Miami, etc.)

He is the 2023 recipient of the National Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists' Award for Excellence in Travel Writing; and a 2024 California Journalism Award for Arts and Entertainment Writing.

Originally from Philadelphia, he now lives in San Francisco, having also lived in Paris. He is an alumnus of Yale College and the University of Pennsylvania.

His varied past work experiences include being a bookseller, library staff member, radio commentator, writing teacher, and a brief gig dancing at a Playboy Club.
