From Manual Workflows to Intelligent Systems: How Regulatory Pressure Is Driving Audit’s Evolution
Over the past decade, the profession has shifted toward the “digital audit.” In many cases, that shift has meant moving existing checklists, templates, and coordination workflows from on-premise systems to the cloud. The cloud has been a meaningful step forward; it improves accessibility, collaboration, and security. But infrastructure addresses where work lives, not how it is governed.
The Operating Model Has Already Changed
In audit and advisory, we tend to describe change as a future state. AI is coming. Regulation is evolving. Capacity will be a challenge. But if you’re on the ground running engagements, navigating PCAOB inspections, or trying to recruit and retain your team, you know that the operating model has already changed. This isn’t a preview. It’s the new normal.
Why Fieldguide’s Series C is a Defining Moment for Audit and Advisory
When we started Fieldguide, we didn’t set out to raise money. We set out to solve a problem we knew intimately; a profession being asked to do more, with less, under rising scrutiny. Today’s announcement, our $75 million Series C led by Goldman Sachs, is a milestone that we’re proud of – but it’s not the most important part of the story. The real story is that the future of audit and advisory is changing for the better, with human practitioners collaborating with AI agents.
Burnout and the Human Cost of Inefficiency
Audit and advisory firms are facing a perfect storm of population decline. Data from the AICPA shows that 75% of CPAs will reach retirement age within the decade. At the same time, the pipeline isn’t refilling. After a brief resurgence in 2023, 2024 numbers decreased again for both people graduating with accounting degrees (-11%) and sitting the CPA exam each year (-12%).

Reimagining AI-enabled Assurance with KPMG
There’s a quiet revolution happening in professional services. At Fieldguide, we’ve always believed the way forward isn’t through more hours but through better leverage. Specifically, AI that’s built for the profession but also with it. That’s why we’re proud to share a new chapter in our work: a collaboration with KPMG LLP to bring purpose-built agentic AI to support assurance services.
Five Years of Innovation: What the CPA Practice Advisor Award Really Signals
Fieldguide has been named a winner of the CPA Practice Advisor Technology Innovation Award–for the fifth consecutive year. We’re honored by the recognition. We also see it as a reflection of our customers’ trust in a long-term bet on meaningful progress. This award is not given for potential. It’s earned through consistent execution and real-world innovation.
The Future Practitioner Is Already Here
When I left public accounting, I thought I was leaving it for good. Like many others, I was burned out, exhausted by the long hours, the repetitive tasks, and the feeling that my potential was buried under checklists and copy-paste work. I didn’t leave because I didn’t love the profession. I left because I couldn’t see a path forward that let me grow. A decade later, I’m back–but in a different role.

Redefining Efficiency and Capacity: Why AI Shouldn’t Just Be Faster, but Also Smarter
For years, the conversation in accounting focused on the talent shortage. But today, the bigger issue is capacity. Firms aren’t just struggling to hire, they’re realizing they may not be able to. The pipeline is stagnant, client expectations are rising, and traditional answers aren’t holding up. Hiring more people, working longer hours, or adding tools that shave a few minutes off a task no longer moves the needle. It’s time to redefine what efficiency really means.
A Clear Path to AI Transformation: Why We Created the AI Maturity Framework
There’s a paradox we hear often from audit and advisory leaders: Nearly every firm is excited about the potential of AI. But when it comes to action, most aren’t sure where to start. And they’re not getting much help. There’s plenty of noise in the market from vendors telling firms they need to transform, but few are offering a credible answer to how. The frameworks, guidance, and benchmarks firms need to navigate AI adoption simply haven’t existed–until now.
