Establishment and phenotypic characterization of a rat model with a clinically relevant phenotype for chronic gouty arthritis
Abstract Background: The study of chronic gouty arthritis (CGA) is limited by the absence of animal models that faithfully mimic its chronic progression. Existing models fail to capture the transition from acute flares to chronic joint damage, highlighting the need for a more representative model. Methods: A novel CGA model was established in SD rats using a combined strategy. Chronic hyperuricemia was induced via a diet containing 2% potassium oxonate and 12% yeast.
The effectiveness and safety of specific dietary supplements in modulating uric acid levels, oxidative stress, and lipid metabolism in patients: a network meta-analysis of 13 interventions | Nutrition & Metabolism | Full Text
This NMA of 30 RCTs (44,972 participants) shows that folic acid (MD = −57.62 μmol/L) and probiotics (MD = −42.52 μmol/L) are most effective in reducing serum uric acid, while vitamin C/E significantly lower oxidative stress (MDA: MD = −0.92/−1.05 μmol/L). Curcumin and DKB114 emerge as top lipid modulators (LDL: MD = −0.54/−0.45 μmol/L), with all supplements demonstrating favorable safety profiles, as detailed in Table 6.
