Jireh is multimedia journalist born and raised in the San Gabriel Valley. They are currently freelancing for various publications including The Los Angeles Times, The Guardian and KCET. They serve as the student representative for the Asian American Journalists Association, L.A. chapter. They’ve been a recipient of writing fellowships from the Key West Literary Seminar and Brooklyn Poets.

Volunteers with the Ka ʻAha Lāhui O ʻOlekona Hawaiian Civic Club harvest kalo leaves at Unity Farms at the Oregon Food Bank in Portland, Ore., on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2026. The kalo leaves are given to community members for free. The plot of land is no bigger than 400 square feet, tucked behind the Oregon Food Bank on an acre of land known as Unity Farms.

Crime Stoppers of Oregon sunsets its anonymous tip line after 43 years

The idea was simple. There was a number where tipsters could clue in law enforcement to an unsolved crime. If the tip led to an arrest, the person could claim a cash reward. The person would never have to disclose their identity. At its peak in the 1980s and ’90s, Crime Stoppers of Oregon was helping to clear hundreds of cases per year and issuing thousands of dollars in checks through this strategy. The organization had placements in billboards, radio spots and during the Super Bowl.

Oregon families flock to pumpkin patches as fall officially begins

A child cautiously raised a cup toward the llama behind a fence as it poked its head out and buried its nose in the offering of animal feed, happily munching away. It was the first weekend of pumpkin patch season at the Frog Pond Farm, and dozens of families with children had flocked to this homestead in Wilsonville, Oregon, to see scores of animals, from miniature zebu cattle to rabbits, for fall festivities.
