THE RESURFACING of the long-dormant tax cap after 35 years was enough to kill the Legislature's $1 billion tax relief initiative. The tax cap limits how much tax revenue Massachusetts can collect and requires the state to return to taxpayers any amount collected above the cap.

The sadness after big life events.
I got married last week. It was really a magical experience. It was a small ceremony surrounded by our closest friends and family. The next day we went on a boat for an extended celebration. All the planning is over. My big day is now in the past. I expected to feel relief, but mostly I’m sad and off-kilter.
