Poem: A Poem For My Baby
When young and starved of affection and attention – one accepts advances as love. Disappointed in love you moved within me. I woke to pain. I entered the corridors as a child – carrying a child – banished to the end of the corridor so my screams for my mother would not challenge the ‘acceptable others’. Who will comfort me, who will hold my hand? A new day dawned. A sterile theatre removed the remnants of your life – back in my balcony, alone, I wept. Will anyone be kind to me?

Accolades for animal shelter are hard earned, real
Once news came out about Hardin County Animal Shelter achieving pro-life status, I noted through the celebration, some expressed doubt the shelter was really no kill. When you think about it, the skepticism and doubt can be understood. The doubt has been earned by shelters and animal control facilities in Kentucky. Most shelters have an archaic way of operating. They don’t want volunteers and they scoff at Friends groups such as ours. Many shelters won’t allow volunteers on the property. Why?

A Native Terrorist Speaks
When they heard that Timothy J. McVeigh might finally speak about the Oklahoma City bombing, relatives of some of the 168 people who died in the 1995 attack came to Denver for his sentencing. But they heard no words from the heart. Mr. McVeigh recited a brief line from a Supreme Court opinion in a 1928 wiretapping case, perhaps a reference to the deaths of the Branch Davidians in Waco, Tex., as Federal agents moved in on them exactly one year before the bombing.
