A trait database for the characterization of diatom communities in disconnected pools
Abstract Trait-based approaches are increasingly used in ecology to understand biodiversity responses to environmental changes. However, information on diatom traits, particularly in temporary aquatic systems, remains limited. Here, we present DIATPOOL, the first database focused on diatom traits from disconnected pools.

A Comparative Analysis of DNA Metabarcoding and Morphological Identification in Diatoms Reveals Similar Patterns of Environmental Response
1 Introduction Diatoms are diverse and ubiquitous unicellular algae that play a pivotal role as primary producers in aquatic ecosystems (Mann and Vanormelingen 2013; Round et al. 1990; Zimmermann et al. 2015). Their species distribution is determined by various environmental variables, among which pH (Potapova and Charles 2002), electrical conductivity (Potapova and Charles 2003), temperature, and nutrient availability (Stevenson et al. 2010) stand out.
