An FDA advisory panel voted 19-0 to recommend approval of Johnson & Johnson and Medivir's experimental hepatitis C drug simeprevir. The vote follows a review released by agency staff earlier this week that found the once-daily oral protease inhibitor was "generally safe" and effective for most patients infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV).
