Scene One Theatre’s next show will offer a roller coaster of emotions

A morbid comedy, "Ride the Cyclone: The Musical," follows the afterlife of six Canadian teenagers who die in a freak roller coaster accident. Awakening in a surreal limbo, they must compete in a bizarre contest to win a single miraculous resurrection. The musical begins with a mysterious, headless girl in a school uniform singing the song of an unending dreamlike state. "Ride the Cyclone" is a youthful story, according to director Megan Wadley. "There's a lot of youthful energy.

Hair bands rule in ‘Rock of Ages’

Drew, an aspiring rock star, longs for fresh-off-the-bus Sherri, who is heading for the bright lights of Hollywood in the 1980s. But Sherri's not in Kansas anymore. Capital City Productions' next production is "Rock of Ages: The Musical," which is directed by Mike Azar and Brandon McElwain. The show is very adult, McElwain said, as nobody in the cast is younger than 18. "There are definitely sexual innuendos and different jokes that might not be suitable for a 17-year old," McElwain said.

Part of Miller Street closing for extended period

East Miller Street in Jefferson City will close Monday between Jefferson and Madison streets for utility work. The street will remain closed for about three months. Weather Tech Renovations, LLC will close the street for roof replacement at Central Bank facilities, according to a city news release. The work is expected to last 12 weeks, weather permitting. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes and to allow extra time for travel in the area.
