What is fuelling middle manager disconnect?
Middle managers are often expected to act as the bridge between senior leadership and employees, translating business priorities, reinforcing company values and keeping teams engaged but new research* suggests many managers are not feeling connected, supported or properly communicated with themselves.
Line managers are the missing link in translating organisational values
Most organisations have no issue when it comes to shouting about their values to employees. They’re on the website, in the induction pack, on the intranet, threaded throughout company branding, and often physically dotted around the office walls. But knowing what the values are and believing in them are two different things. And it turns out that many employees aren’t bought into them.
Internal comms doesn’t need more noise, it needs more connection
Internal communications teams have never had more tools at their disposal. There are intranets, employee apps, emails, newsletters, video updates, Teams channels, webinars, WhatsApp groups and no doubt a few more channels knocking about in the background. Yet, for all that choice, a simple question stands – are employees actually feeling any more connected? In many organisations, internal comms is still treated as a distribution challenge. Has the message gone out? Has it been uploaded?
When AI joins the room: what it actually means for live events
From brand launches and industry conferences to employee town halls and leadership roadshows, live events have always played a unique role in communications. They create shared experiences that digital channels can’t replicate, bringing people together in a way that feels immediate, human and memorable. So, the role of AI within them is becoming more interesting.
Rethinking the employee experience
Employee engagement in the UK is at an all-time low – in fact, a 2025 report by Gallup revealed it was amongst the lowest in Europe, with only 1 in 10 UK employees feeling engaged. While this is worrying for HR and internal comms leaders, for the most part it isn’t down to a lack of communication, instead, a lack of connection and, increasingly, value alignment.
Internal comms needs to be experienced, not just ‘sent’ in 2026
Authored by Joe Gilliver, founder and executive producer at The Chameleon Agency – a full-service creative, events and experiential agency. If internal communications has felt generally harder for the past few years, HR and comms leaders will be glad to know it’s not a figment of the imagination. And it isn’t because organisations have stopped trying, but because employees are operating in a work environment where their attention is constantly demanded and pulled in different directions.

Joe Gilliver: What is the value of corporate family events?
Employee events followed by family events and supplier events may all seem an extravagance when the word recession is being dropped in news articles with regular intensity, says Joe Billiver. So, why would a business want to spend money on events for people outside the organisation? Recently we have created a number of supplier events for our clients. Here suppliers were offered the opportunity to demonstrate their products and new innovations.

Short term budget cuts versus long term impacts
2023 has already seen many senior leadership teams slash budgets. The knock on effect of COVID, Brexit and the energy crisis due to the Ukraine war has created a lack of confidence in the UK industry and business has reacted by withdrawing budgets across departments in organisations. HR is no exception to this rule, but here we will outline why your employees should not suffer further with short term budget strategies.
How to maximise town hall meetings
Just how important it is to involve your employees in the strategic direction your company is going? To deny your team of this chance is to underestimate the abilities of your team and to vitally underuse a strength in your company. Make Town Halls meetings count In the wake of the latest challenge facing all companies, the dreaded budget, it is important to ensure that the return on meetings like this make them cost effective and worthwhile, and the best way to look at this is to simply ask.
Engagement is the "why", but what's the "how?
Without the why, what’s the point? Everywhere you look there is someone claiming to know the secret formula to employee engagement, for a small fee you too can gain the magic formula to a satisfied workforce. That is of course, as long as you and your staff have hours of free time to measure the metrics and complete endless tick box exercises to figure out what is happening in your team. Then what happens to all that data that has been meticulously collected and collated?
Composing Music For Video Games - Tempo
Hi Matmilne, Thanks for your response and I completely agree. However this singular post is part of a series. The first of which is already on here and the next of which I am currently writing/doing the video for. These tutorials as stated at the start are an overview of areas composers need to be aware of when working with visual media. And they aren't specifically aimed at us composers who already have experience, but people looking to get into the field.
Composing Music For Video Games - Key & Tempo
I have to be honest, I find this tutorial to be pretty skim on the details, examples and suggestions on how to handle different types of media/situations. For the past few days I've struggled with what exactly to say because I don't want this to come off as super negative or insult either of the authors. But this read more like the introduction and less like a full article. For example: "We're massive Star Wars fans and love the work of John Williams. The music he composed enhances the scenes.
