Fatal Minnesota house explosion: Victim ID’d, firefighter injured

Authorities have confirmed that a 77-year-old woman died when her home exploded in a rural area of west-central Minnesota. The victim, identified as Henning resident Paulette Venzke, was unaccounted for after the home exploded around 9:38 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 11. Her body was later discovered, with the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office formally identifying her as the victim on Thursday morning. A family dog remains missing and is presumed to be dead, the sheriff’s office added.

A death investigation is underway in Cloquet after a man was found dead in a yard on Wednesday. The Cloquet Police Department says it received a report “of a male lying on the lawn” in the area of 8th Street and Cloquet Avenue, “and there was a lot of blood.” Police arrived to find a 60-year-old man who was dead. His cause of death and the circumstances leading to his death are unknown. “We want to reassure the community that there does not appear to be any threat to the public,” Cloquet PD said.
