Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

Coldwater Daily Reporter, MI

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Sure.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

I'm no longer editing.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Word, Twitter, and my Blue Snowball mic.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

I didn't. No newspaper at Coldwater High School in Michigan.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Nothing good. When I worked for a newspaper rather than going solo, it was nearly impossible for me to pump out 10 stories per week.

What's your favorite drink?

Straight whiskey. Or a good roast of Columbian coffee.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

In my chair reading or with my kid.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

Goodness. Probably the Atlantic? If we're going Indie, it's got to be Arc Digital.
