Starseeker: Astroneer Expeditions is a significant departure from the base-building space survival game that preceded it. Along with a shift toward a session-based extraction shooter-style gameplay loop, Starseeker is also adopting a live-service model to deliver fresh content and gameplay twists regularly.

Instead, Starseeker: Astroneer Expeditions is a live-service game that draws inspiration from extraction shooters and co-op romps like Helldivers 2, dropping teams of titular Astroneers into cooperative missions where they must work together to achieve a variety of objectives before returning home to the Starseeker.

Starseeker: Astroneer Expeditions is System Era's follow-up to the beloved cozy space exploration and survival game, but it's decidedly not an attempt at 'Astroneer 2'. While Starseeker shares Astroneer's universe and continues its story, System Era is taking the opportunity to explore entirely different genre themes, blending nonviolent live service extraction shooter gameplay with the friendly, social aspects that made Astroneer such a wholesome and community-driven experience.
