Aggressive breast cancer hits black women harder
Dr Lisa Newman, of Weill Cornell Medicine, has been part of an international project studying breast cancer in women in different regions of Africa for 20 years. Her work has shown that TNBC is particularly common in women from countries in western sub-Saharan Africa, such as Ghana. She says the reason might be that the genetics of women from this area have been shaped over generations by battling deadly infectious diseases such as malaria.

On the passing of Barry Harris December 15, 1929 - December 8, 2021 by Michael Weiss December 8, 2021 Today, with sadness we mourn the loss of a great man. With joy we celebrate the life of a great man. Background: I met Barry Harris in 1979, receiving a piano lesson while Barry was in Indianapolis for a concert. After moving to New York in 1982 we established a close musical and personal relationship.
Electoral reform should be on the agenda – starting with votes at 16 - 1828 - Championing Freedom
The extension of the franchise is one of the most contentious issues in the field of constitutional reform – or at least it was before all the other ones cropped up. The Scottish experience, where 16- and 17-year-olds participated enthusiastically and maturely in the 2014 independence referendum, lent credibility to those calling for a drop in the age threshold. Yet many remain unconvinced, insistent that voting is a privilege that should not be exercised before adulthood.

The future of mobility: Not one solution, but many
Abbott In 1807, when he patented the first hydrogen-powered engine, François Isaac de Rivaz could have been forgiven for thinking he had found the future of transport. Yet here we are, more than 200 years later, still wrestling with the same question. What will drive us tomorrow? Some still say hydrogen. Some say battery electric power. Some say natural gas. I say, we must explore all the options. I believe that the future of transport will be shaped not by one solution, but many.
'A narrow focus on English and maths stifles creativity'
I count myself as very fortunate. I am generally in good health, I have a beautiful family, I am principal at one of the best sixth form colleges in the country, I work with a group of fantastically talented and dedicated people and to top it all I have had the privilege of welcoming friends and colleagues to five new building opening ceremonies. I spent some time quietly preparing for the customary celebratory words that I would share with the gathered guests for one of these events.
As science-fiction becomes reality we must be open-minded about the future of transport
Imagine it’s the year 2040. Your plane lands at London Heathrow airport. In just 90 seconds you will be in the city centre, after travelling at just under the speed of sound on the UK capital’s new hyperloop service. From there you complete your journey in one of a fleet of smart, autonomous, electric cars and buses, sharing your ride with other passengers travelling in the same direction. This future may currently seem like the fantasy of science-fiction.

And with the promise that the ensuing four years will shape the rest of your life, picking the college that fits you perfectly is a daunting challenge. Are you or your child looking at colleges in Westchester?

From the diaspora: Panhandlers differ, Out damned tooth . . .
From my observation post outside Starbucks: A "craft ice cream" truck tools down Bryn Mawr, 9 or so on a Tuesday morning. We already have craft beer. What else? I'll tell you what else, craft writing, as by Yours Truly and his ilk. Not crafty, though the temptation is always there. Across the street, opposite corner, a young fellow in red shirt and wearing white do-rag is panhandling more aggressively — here in historic Edgewater — than I see on Clark Street a half mile west.

Creativity the key to a cleaner energy future, Editorial - THE BUSINESS TIMES
WILL the cars of the future have four wheels? Or three? Or none at all? Will they even have windows? And what will we use to fuel them? An event taking place this weekend will provide a little preview of what that future might have in store - the Shell Eco-marathon. At Singapore's Changi
For Asia’s university students, a chance to drive innovation in green transport
How will cars of the future look? An event starting today and taking place until Sunday will provide a little preview of what that future might have in store – the Shell Eco-marathon. It began 78 years ago as a friendly competition among the company’s American employees over who could travel further on the least amount of fuel. The annual event has since expanded from the Americas to Asia and Europe. And with it, the opportunity to help drive innovation.
Strategy and Its Interplays
Today on the balcony my guest is John Abbott, a leader with a national mandate. The formation of strategy is an interplay of craft and art, experience and insight, learning and visioning. It is a synthesis, if you will. The heart of the strategy formation process can be found in learning from tangible experiences and visioning from creative insights. It lies, if you like, in the answer to two questions: 1) How to get into the mind of the strategist? and 2) How to read the mind of the organization?

Integrated Platforms Market Map 2016
Vendors of traditional enterprise server, storage and networking hardware have had to react to the increasing interest in and adoption of public cloud services. Their answer? Integrated infrastructure and converged systems now represent one of the fastest-growing segments of the enterprise hardware market.
Study tries to give C-section babies mom's germs they missed - morning-times.com: State News
We share our bodies with microbes — on the skin, in the mouth, in the gut — that help keep us healthy, a community, or microbiome, that starts forming at birth. Usually, a vaginal birth marks babies' first massive exposure to the bacteria. But babies born by C-section miss out on those particular bugs, something many scientists suspect could have consequences later in life.
