Police commissioner Bill Bratton said Wednesday that two police officers “acted professionally and heroically” when they shot and critically wounded a suspect wanted in a series of hammer attacks around Manhattan. The New York Police Department released video of the brief, but violent encounter that took place around 10 a.m. on Eighth Avenue at 37th Street.

Federal prosecutors served subpoenas on three more state legislators today as part of their expanding criminal investigation of the secret grant-making process in Trenton. On the receiving end of the subpoenas this time were Sen. Paul Sarlo and Assembly members Robert Gordon and Joan Voss, all Bergen County Democrats. "I did receive a subpoena this morning," Gordon said.
