Citizen Truth — Baby, let me follow you down Baby, let me follow you down Well, I'll do anything in this God-almighty world If you just let me follow you down Bob Dylan's lyrics from his iconic "Baby, Let me Follow you Down" are a metaphor for the creepy metastases of the Republican Party into the Trumpublican Party, the result of following Donald Trump down into the swamp he once vowed to clean up.

Acceptance vs. Belief

Acceptance vs. Belief

greenenergytimes.org — In her last ever book "No Time to Spare," Ursula Le Guin writes that if someone asked her if she believed in evolution, she would answer "no." As a long-time fan of Le Guin's writing, I knew that she had something up her literary sleeve.

'Twas the Fight before Christmas

'Twas the Fight before Christmas

The Independent — I have “reinterpreted” Clement Clarke Moore’s classic poem as a commentary on the state of politics in America for the past seven years. As each New Year begins, I believe that nothing in the world of politics will surpass the year just past in terms of egregious episodes of ethical banality. But my belief/hope continues to be dashed each year.

Green Energy Times — Greta Thunberg shrugged off one more mocking Trump trademark tweet following her emotional speech about climate change at the United Nations (U.N.) General Assembly on September 23rd. She said she expected him to make comments about her. After Trump’s derisive tweet, Thunberg used it in her biography on her Twitter profile.

The Climate Crisis is a Hoax

The Climate Crisis is a Hoax

Shelburne Falls West Country Independent — We’ve run out of time. We cannot waste any more precious time listening to anyone who insists that the climate crisis is a hoax. The younger generation is not listening to the denial B.S. The remarkable Swedish teenager, Greta Thunberg, speaks a basic truth: “Once you have done your homework, you realize we need new politics.

So I Didn't Stand Up. And I Didn't Ask Why.

Shelburne Falls West Country Independent — So I didn’t stand up. And I didn’t ask why.” These words, these lyrics by Mike Stern from his song Stand Up, hit me like a ton of bricks on August 9. They were sung by that venerable folk singing duo, Annie Patterson and Charlie King in another of their great performances, this time at the Great Falls Discovery Center. King and Patterson have frequently recorded and performed together. Their 2019 Midwest tour celebrated the release of their new CD, Step By Step, which includes songs that celebrate the centennial of Pete Seeger’s birth. King is known for his political satire and ability to find songs that explore struggle and the human experience. Seeger called him “one of the finest singers and songwriters of our time.” Patterson created the songbooks "Rise Up Singing" and "Rise Again" with her husband Peter Blood and has performed all over the U.S. and abroad.

greenenergytimes.org — John Bos We don't like change, even though change is inevitable. Sometimes it takes a 2 X 4 up alongside the head to get our attention. And then we "see" that some change in our lives could have been avoided if only we had paid attention.

Our Planetary Garage

Our Planetary Garage

greenenergytimes.org — Here's a question: how dangerous is it to operate a gasoline engine in a closed garage? The answer is very dangerous, life-threatening in fact. The carbon monoxide emitted by the engine - your lawn mower or snow blower - can reduce the amount of oxygen to the brain causing CO intoxication and lack of reasoning.

Springfield Republican/MassLive — If there is no other reason - and there are plenty - for enacting campaign finance reform, the 18th school shooting in 45 days in America should be the primary reason.

Environmental Tipping Points

greenenergytimes.org — John Bos A tipping point is that magical (or malevolent) moment when an idea, trend, or social behavior crosses a threshold, tips, and then spreads like wildfire. A single sick person can start an epidemic of the flu. Or a Twitter meme.

Needless Death in the Service of Selfishness

greenenergytimes.org — John Bos Many Americans have been under strict stay-at-home orders, or at least advisories, going on three months.
