The Ballot, The Vote And You
By now those of us who are registered voters have received our ballots in the mail for the November 3rd General Election. For Californians, the ballot is two long pages, double sided. Some of the choices are easy such as those running for State offices like Governor, Secretary of State, etc. Then there is the host of propositions, measures and names of people you have never heard of, so don’t panic. This is the point at which you begin to feel like your vote won’t make a difference.
Voters Should Reject Measure A From the County Board of Supervisors
The San Diego County Board of Supervisors have passed and placed on the Ballot, Measure A, calling it transparent and an update to a much-needed San Diego County Charter. But things are not always what they appear to be and this measure is a clear example of that. While it is true that the 1933 County Charter needs to be updated, that is something that this Board of Supervisors has had more than enough time to work on.

The Most Important Vote Since Slaves Were Freed
Most of us know that when President Lincoln freed the slaves in 1863, the stroke of the pen changed the economics of the South and of this nation. This was followed not only by the passage of the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments to the Constitution, but also by mass election of Negroes (Coloreds, Blacks) to public office. Two Black U.S. Senators were elected from the State of Mississippi, and Blacks were elected to the U.S. Congress.
Politics, The Vote And The Black Church
As we move toward the critical November 3rd General Election, it seems like a good time to remind the Black Church of its history, role and responsibility in our current struggle. First, let’s be clear of the rights and the freedoms of the church as guaranteed by the First Amendment to the Constitution.
Making November 3rd The True No Kings Day
During the last two years, we have seen millions of Americans from all walks of life turn out to participate in the “No Kings Day” protest marches across this nation. The demonstrations have been against the illegal practices and activities of President Trump in violation of the Constitution and all democracy stands for. We have seen the United States Congress surrender its Constitutional authority to President Trump without question.
Why The March on Washington, 2026
It is now 63 years since more than 250,000 people marched on Washington, D. C. for jobs, justice and the right to vote. That march was pivotal to the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the 1965 Voting Rights Act, both of which have produced changes that have touched the lives of each and every one of us. The Publisher of this newspaper was there at the Lincoln Memorial on that hot day in August of 1963 as people came by bus, train, car, horse and wagons, and on foot.
