Andrew has spent the past few years writing songs which resonate with his heart, producing an album of profoundly beautiful and meaningful songs which transport the listener from the Ganges to the mountains of northern India, from weaving by the banks of a creek to the humility of a homeward journey.

Guest View: The case for Small Business Saturday
By John Fleming (Fleming is the Delaware District Director for the Small Business Administration) This year, we celebrate the 10th anniversary of Small Business Saturday’s recognition by the U.S. Senate. The SBA co-sponsored “shop small” observance was launched by American Express to support small businesses as our economy emerged from the Great Recession.
Resisting Euthanasia’s Culture of Death
A tsunami of culture-of-death legislation is rolling across the increasingly unfruited plain that is modern-day Australia. Parliament by parliament, our elected representatives have massively expanded the “Overton Window”—the range of policies which the electorate can be persuaded to accept—in relation to issues concerning the ethics of the taking of life.
How to talk to your MP about euthanasia » MercatorNet
In the light of the way in which politicians (Australia-wide) have conducted their debates on “voluntary assisted dying” legislation, there comes a time when someone needs to remind politicians of the way in which public policy should be handled by them. Emotionalism and euphemisms MPs need to leave their emotionalism and emotional stories (which cannot be independently verified) at the door.
Carving out Resilience Investments from the “American Jobs Plan” Could Attract Bipartisan Support
We recently argued in an essay for the Brookings Institution that greater attention should be given to investments in climate resilience in the Biden administration’s “Build Back Better” Plan, which was formally proposed as the “American Jobs Plan” on March 31. Potential resilience investments and policies illustrate how most of the nation would benefit: Higher seawalls would better protect Eastern and Southern coastal states from more frequent and intense hurricanes and windstorms.
Female entrepreneurs, the U.S. Small Business Administration is here to support you
2021 marks the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage. In just a century, women have made great strides toward equality since earning the right to vote. Indeed, on the entrepreneurship front, women today own or co-own 45% of businesses in the United States. But, even today, woman-owned small businesses make up only approximately 4% of total small business revenue. So, what does this mean? It means work remains to be done.
The climate wolf at the door: Why and how climate resilience should be central to building back better
The Biden administration’s economic recovery strategy, widely known as “Build Back Better,” is expected to vastly improve our national response to climate change. So far, virtually all attention on this subject has focused on mitigation—slowing the pace of climate change by reducing carbon dioxide emissions and taking existing carbon dioxide out of the air through “carbon capture” technologies.

In Australia's Nightmare, a Vision of the Planet's Terrifying Future
The disaster unfolding in Australia is as horrific as it is unfathomable. Hundreds of massive wildfires are burning throughout the country — scorching more than 15 million acres so far — with 24 people dead, more missing, thousands fleeing, and at least 1,400 homes destroyed. "The loss of wildlife makes this world a lonelier, colder place and deprives future generations of a genuinely wild planet.

The Best Art History Books for Teenagers
You’ve taught history of art for three decades. What have you found captures pupils—what fires their enthusiasm for the subject? Art history students like drama and a good story. They like Caravaggio and Michelangelo both for the excitement of their art and their lives. But all art history teachers get a little bit tired when students write about the artists’ biographical details in an exam, because although it’s fascinating, it’s not really the point.
Rep. Jared Polis: Hey, Louisiana, are you smoking fried crayfish?
What happens when a conservative medical doctor from Louisiana debates marijuana with a free spirit like Jared Polis of Boulder on the floor of the U.S. House? For some reason, a bizarre discussion on crayfish. Polis took offense at the comments by Rep. John Fleming, R-La., who talked about what he sees as the negative impacts of legalizing marijuana on Colorado and its children. The Colorado congressman disputed Fleming’s concerns.
In search of America, in the style of the late great Tom Wolfe | Opinion
John Fleming, Your Turn Published 10:33 a.m. ET Dec. 29, 2018 John Fleming(Photo: Your Turn) Dear America: How are you feeling, here at the end of 2018? Should we check for fever? More to the point, America, is your soul intact? Mourning the loss of Tom Wolfe this past year, I wondered how America was doing and what Tom might write about it.
H.S. cross country: Hidden Valley girls look for better finish in Class 3 meet
Dan King thought they had it. At the mile mark. At the two-mile mark. Even with 100 meters to go, the Hidden Valley cross country coach figured his girls were in position to win the state title last year. Heck, even after they all crossed the finish line, most folks in attendance assumed the Titans had won. But they hadn’t. Western Albemarle edged the Titans for the VHSL Class 3 title by one point. “I don’t know if they were crushed as much as they were surprised,” King said of his girls.
Commentary: If Jerry Brown is so green, why does he back oil drilling?
When I get onstage Saturday to speak at the March for Science Los Angeles, I’ll undoubtedly see clever signs in the crowd – maybe blown-up photos of President Donald Trump staring directly at the solar eclipse without protective glasses, or signs that ask “What do Trump and atoms have in common? They make up everything.”Trump and his anti-science administration are deservedly the central focus of the march.

Session turned out good legislation
It has been great to return to the Montana House of Representatives for the 65th Legislative Session. As we wind down, I’m happy to report we have passed some good legislation to help the state deal with important issues including suicide prevention and the increasing problem of invasive species on our public lands and in our waters. It’s well-known that Montana has one of the highest suicide rates in the U.S., and that number is even higher in our native communities.

Rep. Fleming: Impeach the IRS commissioner
John Koskinen continued the pattern of stonewalling and obstruction. If this election cycle has taught us anything, it’s that Americans are sick and tired of what they see as a double standard: one set of rules for the powerful and politically connected, another for ordinary Americans. For years, the IRS abused its power to target groups based on their political views — a fundamental violation of citizens’ First Amendment rights. But no one has been held accountable.
