Arizona church escapes major damage after rare tornado
HEBER-OVERGAARD, Ariz. (BP) – Before last Wednesday, it had been a minute since Eric Woods had experienced a tornado. Around 24 million minutes, actually. Woods was 5 years old when he, his mom and older brother were attending Wednesday prayer meeting at Southcliff Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas. Ray Woods, Eric’s father, was a student at Southwestern Seminary and had drawn a shift “working at a freight dock or something,” Eric told Baptist Press. “We hid in the basement,” said Woods, 51.
FIRST-PERSON: Noticeable living
As I was returning from a family vacation — where my legs were voted whiter than the Florida sand – a song came on the radio and captured my attention. The lyrics asked: “What would life be like if we let Jesus live through you and me?” Let that sink in for a moment. What if the hundreds of millions of people who claim to be Christians actually let Jesus live through them? What if we did more than profess our faith and instead, lived as Jesus would live if He were walking among us today?
Ouachita Baptist University to require faculty, staff to sign statement of affirmation
ARKADELPHIA, Ark. (BP) – A requirement for Ouachita Baptist University faculty to sign a statement upholding “historic Christian belief” on issues such as sexuality, race and Christian community, as well as affirming OBU’s relationship with the Arkansas Baptist State Convention, has drawn the ire of many on OBU’s staff. Three statements of affirmation separately address faculty and staff, faculty in the Pruet School of Christian Studies and the Board of Trustees.

Seawater fogging reduces mortality and bleaching in two coral species during a heatwave and subsequent recovery
Abstract The escalating frequency and severity of marine heatwaves are driving factors behind mass coral bleaching, necessitating both rapid emission reductions and the development of scalable intervention tools. Shading coral to reduce irradiance stress is a promising approach, yet most studies focus on static structures, and few include recovery dynamics.

Jury rules Southwestern insurer owes seminary $7 million
Baptist Press file photo DALLAS (BP) – A jury has ruled in favor of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary after the seminary’s insurance carrier attempted to deny coverage connected to the Jane Roe suit. The bulk of the award – $5 million – came because the jury found Hanover knowingly committed its actions to deny Southwestern appropriate coverage.

Unsplash photo. How many times have you said to someone, “prove it!”? “Prove it” is a statement of unbelief. You’re not buying what the other person is selling so you stop the conversation by saying “prove it.” This may come across as a prideful statement because you are convinced that the other person doesn’t know what they’re talking about, so you confidently throw down the gauntlet and say, “prove it.” It’s now post-Easter. ‘Resident Lottie Moon’ honored on 100th birthday
ENTERPRISE, Ala. (BP) – First Baptist Church of Enterprise, Ala., considers Betty Jane Hunt its “resident Lottie Moon.” Hunt shares much in common with the iconic Moon, senior pastor Ben Bowden told Baptist Press days after the church celebrated Hunt’s 100th birthday. “It’s amazing how many parallels Lottie Moon’s story has with her story,” Bowden said. Moon served in China; Hunt served primarily in the Republic of Korea.

Empty! - Baptist Courier
Empty – it’s not one of our favorite terms. It’s not one of our preferred greetings. When someone asks you, “How are you doing?” you probably don’t respond by saying, “Empty, thanks for asking!” Many popular songs through the years have focused on the emptiness of life – songs such as “Running on Empty,” “Empty Spaces,” and “Empty Garden,” to name a few. According to one source, songs that focus on empty explore themes of loss, longing, and emotional voids.

Después de que Abella plantó Providence Road Church en Miami en 2010, conoció por experiencia propia las circunstancias que rodean el inicio de nuevas iglesias hispanas.

FIRST-PERSON: The day between
What do you do when Friday didn’t end the way you envisioned and Sunday hasn’t arrived? Two thousand years ago the events leading up to what we now call Easter, were a whirlwind – to say the least. And things certainly didn’t turn out the way the way those early Christ followers envisioned. So there they were, after a bizarre week that began with a celebration and ended with a crucifixion. It was Saturday, the day between. The crowds gone. Their minds and hearts numb.

Sustainability: How EVs Are Trying To Make a Difference
Toxic emissions from petrol and diesel vehicles lead to long-term, adverse effects on public health and contribute greatly to greenhouse emissions. Globally, automobile manufacturers have been at the forefront of bringing a shift towards electric vehicles as the emissions impact of electric vehicles is much lower than petrol or diesel vehicles. "India emits around 3 Giga tonnes of CO2 and other greenhouse gasses per year.
Disney's Super Bowl Ad Under Fire Online Amid Planned Layoffs
Disney ran an ad celebrating its 100th anniversary at the Super Bowl on Sunday — and faced criticism from the peanut gallery. The company "got panned" according to The New York Times Dealbook, for taking out an ad amid layoffs at the company, which will total some 7,000 jobs. Buying a 30-second commercial to run during the game reportedly cost over $7 million. Considering things like production costs and talent, it can easily go up to $10 million, per The Hollywood Reporter.
What to Know Before Adding Someone to Your Bank Account Original
If you own a small business, then you have a few bank accounts — at least I hope so. Most likely, you have a checking account or two, a few savings accounts and maybe some type of investment accounts as well. Now, when it comes to banking, and if you're a one-man or one-woman operation, it's just you on the account. But what about when your company gets bigger and bigger, and you have a difficult time keeping up with what's happening in your accounts?
A Small Business Owner's Guide to Managing Funds and Investments
As a small business owner grows over the years, one aspect of finance that they often overlook is that of the ability to use investments as a means of growing revenue, increasing net worth and building the overall financial security of their business. The majority of small business owners don't even think about this course of action because they don't know about it, because they don't think that they can qualify for it, or because they are unfamiliar with how it all works.
4 Ways Small Business Owners Should View Money
One discussion I have immediately with my new small business clients is that of how they plan to send, receive, save and protect their funds to make sure that all of their financial needs and goals will be met without delay or disruption to their daily operations. When broken down, this all falls into four categories: money in, money out, money held and money protected.
3 Problems Most Small Businesses Face and How to Avoid Them
On a weekly basis, I have the opportunity to work with small business owners in a variety of ways. Unfortunately, I am often helping them to overcome a challenge that they really didn't need to have happen in the first place. For instance, one area that far too many owners face is the inability to get working capital because they never dealt with their own poor personal credit.
How Longtime Founders Can Get Excited About Their Work Again
Have you ever trained in some type of Martial Arts before? I have. Man, I loved that stuff! I could kick people in the face and get a pat on the back for it (unlike when I did it at school). But looking back at how I was mentally when I was just starting out is fun to revisit from time to time. I didn't care if my belt was tied really weirdly and sticking out at odd angles. I didn't care that my uniform was on sideways, inside-out or backward.
4 Problems Small Business Owners Face and How to Solve Them Original
I recently spoke with a small business owner who has been fairly successful and has overcome so much to get where she is. She owns a cleaning company and has been in business for over 25 years. Yet, the past four or five years have been an increasingly challenging time to generate new business.
Become a Better Small Business Leader With These 3 Simple Steps Original
One of the biggest challenges that small business owners face is also the one biggest thing that will ensure their success: leadership. Regardless of industry, the majority of small business owners I work with have similar backstories: They are good at what they do, they hated their job/boss, and they feel that they can do better on their own. Often, they're right.

The Small Business Success Cycle
Perhaps one of the most beneficial things that a small business owner can do for themselves is to set themselves up for success as quickly as possible. And one very effective way to do that is to create a cycle of success that provides positive, repeatable results, yet also allows you to stretch yourself to new heights. When you are creating a cycle of success, you want to keep a few things in mind. One is to make sure that it keeps you focused both on actions as well as the end results.
Anchors vs. Motors: Business Mentors Original
One fatal mistake small business owners make time and again is they lack the willingness to ask for help or look for a mentor when they are looking to grow in new areas. Too many small business owners think "I know this industry and I'm very good at what I do. Why do I need to ask someone for help? What do they know that I don't?" Yes, many small business owners do make it far, of course, however, when they want to reach a new level in their business, they often fail, because they go at it alone.

David Ervine famously said Unionists are clairvoyant and the news is always going to be bad. And, in truth, sometimes it is. The NI Protocol element of Brexit was not good news. There have been and are serious consequences arising from it and most Unionists believe that their citizenship of the United Kingdom has been undermined. Our rights, opportunities and privileges have been curtailed by decisions taken on our behalf without our consent.
