Joint effort continues

Last year, the Otautau Rugby Club celebrated its 150th anniversary over the Anzac Day weekend. The Otautau Rugby Club is the third oldest club in Southland behind Riverton and Invercargill Blues. The Otautau senior team has now been combined with Ohai Nightcaps for seven consecutive years. Home games and trainings are shared equally, while the two clubs have 10 primary grade teams between them. Otautau had more than 430 people registered to attend the jubilee celebrations last year.

Barbarians made to work for win against Star

The Eastern Northern Barbarians remain unbeaten after five rounds of the Southland premier grade season. The Barbarians recorded a 13-6 win against Star on Saturday. Star battled hard right to the final whistle in cold weather conditions in the northern Southland town of Waikaia. The Barbarians led 8-6 at halftime as the fog began to roll in over the Waikaia grounds. Coach AJ Aitken said it was a tough game.
