What does it look like when one diverse community gathers to support another diverse community? It might look like Lutherans for Love. A network of nine ELCA congregations in the San Diego area, Lutherans for Love is a ministry of LGBTQIA+ people and allies. Its year-round programming makes a loud and enthusiastic point of having a presence at the San Diego Pride parade, manning a float every year.

Lisa Lewton elected bishop of the Western North Dakota Synod

Lisa Lewton, Dickinson, N.D., was elected May 31 to serve a six-year term as bishop of the Western North Dakota Synod of the ELCA. The election took place during the synod assembly, May 29-31 at the Rough Rider Center in Watford City, N.D. Lewton was elected on the fourth ballot, with 170 votes. Mike Pretzer, pastor of Peace Lutheran Church in Dickinson, received 31 votes. A total of 138 votes was needed for election.

Rahel Mwitula Williams appointed ELCA executive director for Innovation

Rahel Mwitula Williams has been appointed executive director for the Innovation unit of the ELCA. Mwitula Williams has served as the ELCA’s interim executive director for Innovation and its director for innovation and ideas since 2025. Previously, she served as director for ELCA Global Mission Funding (2019-2023), manager for ELCA Donor Relations (2016-2019), and executive coordinator at the Ancona School in Chicago (2007-2012).
