The Jesus experience tourists are looking for in Israel is available now
The Jesus experience tourists are looking for in Israel is available now Even though tourism to Israel has dropped significantly because of the wars, thousands of people are still coming to Israel to experience the places they read about in the Bible. I've been in Israel for close to two weeks now and have never felt threatened or unsafe. The news media wants you to believe that missiles are raining down on Israel continually. That's a false narrative.
Preexisting maternal immunity to AAV but not Cas9 impairs in utero gene editing in mice
Abstract In utero gene editing (IUGE) is a potential treatment for inherited diseases that cause pathology before or soon after birth. Preexisting immunity to adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors and Cas9 endonuclease may limit postnatal gene editing. The tolerogenic fetal immune system minimizes a fetal immune barrier to IUGE. However, the ability of maternal immunity to limit fetal gene editing remains a question. We investigated whether preexisting maternal immunity to AAV or Cas9 impairs IUGE.
New potential owner found for Helena's historic Montana Club
HELENA — According to the Original Montana Club Cooperative Association, a prospective buyer has signed a contract to purchase the historic Montana Club. Announced Friday, businessman and software entrepreneur Ajitpal Pannu has entered into a $1.3 million agreement to buy the entire Montana Club operations, the liquor license, the club-owned floors of the building, the Rathskeller, and all furniture and equipment. “I invest in three things.
What is an RF connector?
Editor's Choice printer friendly version What is an RF connector? To understand an RF connector, we first need to look at RF signals. An RF (radio frequency) signal refers to an alternating current (AC) signal characterised by its frequency falling within the radio frequency range. This typically includes frequencies from 3 kHz to 300 GHz. RF signals are widely used in various communication systems, such as radio broadcasting, television, wireless communication, and radar.

Exhaled volatile organic compounds in adult asthma: a systematic review
Adnan Azim, Clair Barber, Paddy Dennison, John Riley, Peter Howarth European Respiratory Journal 2019 54: 1900056; DOI: 10.1183/13993003.00056-2019 Abstract The search for biomarkers that can guide precision medicine in asthma, particularly those that can be translated to the clinic, has seen recent interest in exhaled volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

Samyang AF 85mm f/1.4 FE Review
Samyang AF 85mm f/1.4 FE Lens Review - Samyang's 85mm f/1.4 lens for Sony FE-Mount and E-Mount cameras, with AF, and full-frame coverage. 29 Mar 2019 11:15AM by John Riley | Samyang AF 85mm f/1.4 FE in Interchangeable Lenses Samyang AF 85mm f/1.4 FE Review Samyang AF 85mm f/1.4 FE Lens Review - Samyang's 85mm f/1.4 lens for Sony FE-Mount and E-Mount cameras, with AF, and full-frame coverage.
BenQ SW240 Review
Features Handling Performance Verdict One of the vital links in the image processing chain is of course the monitor, upon which our view of the process totally depends. Intended specifically for imaging, be it photography or graphics, this IPS monitor, with its wide colour gamut (100% sRGB, 99% Adobe RGB) and wide (178 degree) viewing angle seems to be one of the prime choices. Let's live with the BenQ 24” version for a while and see if it fulfils all the criteria that critical imaging requires.
Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Lens Review
One of the strengths of interchangeable lens cameras is, of course, the ability to change lenses as required. However, there are times when this is not so easy and a one-lens solution is needed, perhaps for travel, perhaps because the weather is bad and changing lenses in lashing rain would be a risk. In one sense, the wider the range of such a lens, the better, providing that the performance is up to the task.
Canon EF 400mm f/2.8 IS III Lens Review
Whichever way we look at it, a 400mm f/2.8 lens for full frame cameras is going to be a large proposition. Canon has now lightened that load by producing what they claim to be currently the world's lightest 400mm f/2.8 optic, and it is in fact only about 73% of the weight of its immediate predecessor. Does this make enough of a difference to enable hand holding for any length of time and is the new lens still the same optical quality that we have come to expect?
Carl Zeiss Tessar 50mm f/2.8 Vintage Review
The Tessar 4 element lens is one of the classic Carl Zeiss designs, usually very sharp when stopped down and with high contrast and low flare. This particular lens was sold with the Zeiss Ikon Icarex 35S camera body in breech mount, circa 1966, and later in screw thread mount with the Icarex 35 TM. We are talking here about West German manufacture, as opposed to the East German Carl Zeiss Jena lenses that were budget options for the Praktica and other low-cost cameras.
Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM Sport Review
The 70-200mm telephoto zoom is, quite rightly, one of the most popular designs in any lens range, being incredibly versatile for many applications. Here Sigma introduce their new f/2.8 lens for full frame cameras, so let's see what it adds to the mix of alternatives already available, and how it performs, using the 50MP Canon EOS 5DS R body.
Fujifilm Fujinon XF 200mm f/2 R LM OIS WR Lens Review
We have seen some superb lenses from Fujifilm and the first impression of this new lens looks equally as promising as it is impressive, dwarfing the Fujifilm X-H1 body used for the review. It is big and chunky, as we might expect from a 200mm lens with a super-fast, bright f/2 maximum aperture. Also included in the package is a 1.4x teleconverter, adding a useful extension to the focal length whilst hardly changing the dimensions of the main lens and camera body.
Irix 150mm f/2.8 Macro 1:1 Dragonfly Review
Irix have built an enviable reputation for interesting, high quality optics, concentrating on areas relatively neglected by other manufacturers. Here we have a long 150mm macro lens that offers a full 1:1 life size magnification for Canon, Nikon and Pentax full frame DSLR users. The lens is manual focus only, although especially in the case of a macro lens this may be of little concern. Let's have a close look and see how the lens performs and what the advantages of a longer focal length may be.
Nikon AF-S Nikkor 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR Review
A 500mm lens is never going to be a truly compact lens, but the new Nikkor 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR is certainly, relatively speaking, as compact as it could get. It is also quite light for such a lens, so much so that the initial impression when first picking it up is a very favourable one.
Sony FE 24mm f/1.4 G Master Review
The Sony GM range has produced some extraordinary, superb quality lenses, so we approach this new 24mm f/1.4 with very high expectations. 24mm is, of course, a traditionally very useful ultra-wide on full frame cameras, suitable for a wide range of subjects and part of a continuous trend that brings wider and wider lenses into the arena of general photography. At one time this would have been a very specialised optic, but no longer as our tastes have widened.
Tokina Opera 50mm f/1.4 FF Review
Having recently reviewed the excellent HD Pentax-D FA* 50mm f/1.4 AW lens, there is a strong sense of deja vu as we look at the Tokina Opera 50mm f/1.4 FF lens for Nikon and Canon full frame cameras. Very clearly the two are closely related, maybe not 100% identical, but certainly sharing the same basic specification and build.
Sigma 56mm f/1.4 DC DN | C Review
A new lens from Sigma in their Contemporary range, billed as having optical quality “approaching that of the Art lenses”, for MFT and Sony E APS-C format mirrorless cameras. Reviewed here using the Sony A5100 24mp mirrorless body, giving a “35mm format equivalent” field of view of an 84mm lens. This is very close to the classic 85mm f/1.4, so it will be very interesting to see how it performs.
Voigtlander Zoomar 36-82mm f/2.8 Vintage Lens Review
Zoom lenses have long been used in cinematography, but in 1959 Dr Frank G Back of Zoomar Corporation of New York saw his Zoomar lens design released in suitable mounts for SLR cameras. The new lens was a revelation – continuously variable focal lengths, all in one simple action, and a constant f/2.8 aperture, something previously beyond the available technology.
Zeiss Batis 40mm f/2 CF Review
The Zeiss Batis range of lenses for full frame Sony FE mount cameras has rapidly expanded. We have already the 18mm f/2.8, 25mm f/2, 85mm f/1.8 and 135mm f/2.8 lenses, which are now joined by the Zeiss Batis Distagon 40mm f/2 CF T* lens. It is based on a classic lens design, so let's see how the new lens handles and performs, using the Sony Alpha A7 III 24MP body. Zeiss has certainly taken the concept of minimalism to heart and made it their own.
Canon EOS R Review
It seems that 2018 is rapidly becoming the year of the full frame mirrorless camera system. With other marques hot on their heels, Canon offer the new EOS R and its accompanying lenses, plus of course a handy adapter to enable the use of current EF and EF-S optics. The Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens has been looked at in detail and now we examine the EOS R camera body, along with the Mount Adapter EF-EOSR.
HD Pentax-D FA 50mm f/1.4 SDM AW Lens Review
Over its long history in lens making, Pentax have more than once pitched in with lenses that take on the very best that the Zeiss and Leicas of this world have had to offer. Challenging the best standard lenses of their day, we have had the Super-Takumar 50mm f/1.4, and the SMC Pentax-FA 43mm f/1.9 Limited, both highly respected and the latter even seen in Leica mount.
Venus Laowa 24mm f/14 Replay 2x Probe Macro Review
Laowa lenses are from another smaller lens manufacturer who has been pushing back the boundaries and releasing new, exciting designs that take the potential of photography in new directions. Fresh from its successful Kickstarter project we have the Laowa 24mm f/14 2x Macro probe, a strange beast indeed. The idea of having an ultra-wide depth of field with a macro capable of 2x life-size is a compelling one, so let's see how it works out in practice, using the full frame 50MP Canon EOS 5DS R.
Samyang MF 85mm f/1.8 ED UMC CS Review
There is no doubt that we are in a new age of manual focus lenses. There are so many new, exciting designs from a variety of manufacturers, some well established, some new to the marketplace. Samyang have an enviable reputation in the manual focus arena, although of late they have also expanded into new AF lenses. The new Samyang 85mm f/1.8 is a manual focus lens for APS-C and MFT format cameras.
Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM Lens Review
Hot on the heels of the excellent Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM, reviewed last month and awarded an Editor's Choice accolade, we have the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM, the big brother of the pair, with its fast, bright f/2.8 maximum aperture. We can also add weight and cost to the equation, so it will be very interesting to see the outcome, and tested using the same Canon EOS 5DS R 50mp body as for the previous review.
Samyang AF 14mm f/2.8 F Lens Review
Samyang continues to move onwards into autofocus territory, now presenting us with their first Nikon F fit lens, the full frame AF 14mm f/2.8. Definitely in the class of the ultra-wide, the 14mm lens is demanding of manufacture and of technique, so let's see how it stands up to the competition, using for this review the 45mp Nikon D850 body. This is a chunky lens, but not excessively so, weighing in at a reasonable 474g.
Meike 85mm f/1.8 Review
Handling and Features Performance Verdict Specification Innovation and development continue apace at Meike and now we have their first autofocus lens. The Meike AF 85mm f/1.8 takes a well established specification, the classic portrait lens, and adds AF giving it a definite plus in terms of speed of use and general handling. All looks well on paper, so let's see how the lens actually performs and handles and whether it can take on and compete with much more expensive optics.
Auto Chinon Multi-coated 28mm f/2.8 Vintage Lens Review
Before the advent of the AF lens the typical amateur lens line-up would be 35mm-50mm-135mm, which eventually evolved to 28mm-50mm-135mm as our idea of what constituted a wide angle developed. Apart from the marque offerings there were a vast number of third party 28mm lenses, usually f/2.8, some good, some less so. The Chinon name in the UK was fairly synonymous with Dixons Photographic, featuring cameras and lenses sourced from many Japanese factories.
Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS II USM Lens Review
70-200mm lenses are one of the most sought-after choices in any range of lenses, but full frame f/2.8 models do have the drawback of being big and heavy, as well as expensive. The option of a lower cost, lighter, more compact f/4 version is a very attractive one and here we have exactly such an optic in the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS II USM. Let's see if it delivers the goods, using the full frame Canon EOS 5DSR 50MP body for this review.
Samyang AF 85mm f/1.4 EF Review
Hot on the heels of the 50mm f/1.4, 35mm f/1.4, 35mm f/2.8, 24mm f/2.8 and 14mm f/2.8 AF lenses for full frame Sony FE mount and the AF 14mm f/2.8 EF in Canon mount, we have a new Canon mount full frame lens in the Samyang 85mm f/1.4 EF.
Sigma 70mm f/2.8 DG Macro Art Review
Most manufacturers offer 50mm and 100mm macro lenses, usually at the top end of the range in terms of optical quality. The 100mm tends to be more commonly used, having the benefit of a longer working distance that avoids throwing shadows on the subject, but sometimes being closer can also be a benefit, such as when documents are being copied. The new Sigma 70mm macro lens offers a compromise in working distance that some photographers might find ideal.
Samyang AF 24mm f/2.8 FE Review
There was a time when the only negative point about Samyang's excellent lens range was that all were manual focus. No longer is this so. Already we have the very fine 50mm f/1.4, 35mm f/1.4, 35mm f/2.8 and 14mm f/2.8 AF lenses for full frame Sony FE mount. There is even an AF 14mm f/2.8 EF in Canon mount. Now the new Samyang AF 24mm f/2.8 FE for Sony full frame mirrorless cameras has arrived, the widest offering yet.
Meike 50mm f/1.7 Review
Meike has been steadily introducing some excellent lenses and now have turned their attention to the full frame standard 50mm f/1.7, a lens that was once the first option taken up by almost all purchasers of an SLR camera. With all our zooms of amazing specifications, there is still much to be said for the fast, bright 50mm and in many ranges, this is often labelled the “Plastic Fantastic”.
Asahi Pentax Super-Takumar 50mm f/1.4 Model I (8-Element) Vintage Lens Review
Some lenses do gain a legendary status, and the Model I Super-Takumar 50mm f/1.4 is one of them. The first claim to fame is the use of radioactive Thorium glass, the second is that this first model of 8 elements was soon replaced by a 7 element version and the Model I became the stuff of legends for its extraordinary performance. Manufactured from 1964-1965 we can now have a close look to see how it performs using the Pentax K-1 DSLR. Will the 36MP digital images have that same magic about them?
Lensbaby Burnside 35mm f/2.8 Review
Handling and Features Performance Verdict Specification Lensbaby are already well known for producing unique and interesting lens designs, bringing new creative possibilities and stretching our imaginations. The very antithesis of the general search for overall sharpness. The new Burnside 35 lens is an unusually wide Petzval based design with its distant origins in Voigtlander's revolutionary design from 1840.
Asahi Super Takumar 55mm f/2.0 M42 Vintage Lens Review
The classic 50mm standard lens is well established as a great option when exploring using older lenses on digital DSLRs. The Asahi Pentax M42 screw thread lenses are probably one of the best-known options, but is the reputation justified and are they really suitable for regular use in terms of handling as well as the quality of results? Here we have a very well cared for sample of the 55mm f/2 Model II lens, dating from between 1971 to 1974.
Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 180-400mm f/4E TC1.4 FL ED Review
An expensive, professional zoom lens covering a very useful focal length range of 180-400mm, made even more desirable with the addition of a built-in teleconverter that results in a range of 252-560mm. The constant aperture is a relatively fast f/4, or f/5.6 with the converter switched in, making a potentially ideal sports and wildlife lens for Nikon DSLR cameras. Here we use the Nikon D850 45MP full frame body, so let's see how this combination works out in use and how it performs technically.
Asahi Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 135mm f/3.5
Even as late as the early 1970s the classic lens set for amateur photographers would be the 35mm, 50mm and 135mm lenses. Very often the 135mm would be the first purchase after the camera body with its ubiquitous 50/55mm lens. Why 135mm? This goes even further back to the Leica, 135mm being the longest lens that can be accurately focused on a rangefinder camera. With longer lenses, the SLR is more accurate.
Tamron 70-210mm f/4 Di VC USD Review
Tamron are here offering a very interesting alternative concept to their already very fine 70-200mm f/2.8 option. Reduce the constant aperture to f/4, retain the high quality level and moisture resistance, and we end up with a much lighter, more compact optic that lends itself much better to travel photography, and indeed in any situation where the reduced bulk and weight are seen as an advantage. It might even cost less.
Laowa C-Dreamer 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D Review
Here we have yet another groundbreaking lens from Laowa Venus Optics, the C-Dreamer 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D for APS-C format. This is a very, very wide lens and to achieve the same field of view we would need something like a 13.5mm lens in 35mm-format terms. This becomes all the more extraordinary when we consider that it is also billed as having Zero-D, that is, zero distortion. So let's have a closer look at how this manual focus lens behaves, and performs, using the Sony Alpha A5100 24mp body.
Vivitar Auto Macro 55mm f/2.8 Vintage Lens Review
There are some lenses that achieve a certain legendary status over the years, and the Vivitar Auto Macro 55mm f/2.8, made by Komine, is probably one of the better known. Having been given the loan of a boxed example of the lens that has hardly been touched since new, it's an interesting chance to review it using the Pentax K-1 36mp full frame DSLR. From the serial number of 28711929, the lens falls into the years where the numbers can be deciphered.
Milkminder figures show benefit of higher farmgate prices
Dairy farmers saw increased feed prices in 2017 outstripped by increased milk prices and increased production, according to the latest report by Promar Milkminder. While feed costs a litre had risen by 0.5p to 8.5p/litre over the 12 months, the average milk price for the recorded herds was up 5p on the 2016 price to 31.6p/litre. Average margin over purchased feed (MOPF) increased by 23% to 23.1p/litre last year.
Sony E 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS Review
Handling and Features Performance Verdict Specification There is no doubt that the new Sony E 18-135mm lens has a real place amongst those that could be considered as general purpose/travel companions. Designed for APS-C format cameras, and here reviewed with the Sony Alpha A6500 body, this gives a full format “35mm equivalent” similar to the 28-200mm super zooms that paved the way in the days when we used film. To be precise, 27-202.5mm.
Samyang AF 14mm f/2.8 EF Review
For many years, Samyang has been building an impressive array of manual focus lenses. Reviews have been very positive, although often expressing the wish that the lenses were autofocus. More recently, we have seen a gradually expanding range of AF lenses, albeit until now for Sony FE fit. This consisted of the 14mm f/2.8, 35mm f/2.8, 50mm f/1.4 and 35mm f/1.4 FE.
