The lost city of Mohenjo Daro

A well-planned street grid and an elaborate drainage system hint that the occupants of the ancient Indus civilization city of Mohenjo Daro were skilled urban planners with a reverence for the control of water. But just who occupied the ancient city in modern-day Pakistan during the third millennium B.C. remains a puzzle. "It's pretty faceless," says Indus expert Gregory Possehl of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. The city lacks ostentatious palaces, temples, or monuments.

The time of the Great American Party is approaching. By that I mean the Super Bowl, when American homes are filled with cheese dip, loose meat sandwiches, pizza and any other food that can be quickly transferred from hand to mouth. It is, by any measure, a national holiday. And the perfect time to hone the Irish Exit. If you are unfamiliar with the term, an Irish Exit is a departure from a party without a customary goodbye to all concerned.

John Roach counters Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway's "Vision Zero" with another cause worth considering. ’Tis the holiday season, and the end of 2022. Interesting year. Democracy breathed a sigh of relief in November with a national rejection at the polls of the shamed, former president and his seditionist posse. After the votes were counted, the air was filled with concession speeches, the soft tissue of our body politic. How wonderful it was to hear them.
