MPS failures show a need for an overhaul. Start with the school board. | Opinion Original
The recent news that Milwaukee Public Schools failed to file a required financial report to the state Department of Public Instruction, that its past reports were missing data or inaccurate, and that it might have to payback millions in funds to the state is just another proof point underscoring the need for substantial governance reform. Our weighted survey of 2,740 U.S. adults aged 18 or older found that younger generations face yet another challenge when preparing for retirement.

Financial Strength And Strength Of Character - Both Are Needed For Success
Inflation, market volatility, restless shareholders, waning consumer confidence and a potential recession are putting pressure on a growing number of companies across industries. In fact, the latest Consumer Confidence Index revealed that confidence fell for a third consecutive month, and now stands at its lowest level since February 2021. As a result, many companies are scaling back on investments and looking for short-term success to increase consumer optimism and drive revenue.
Relevance Brings Growth
"Companies that stand the test of time and grow exponentially over time understand the importance of re-imagining their services and product offerings to make them even more relevant to their customers," says John Schlifske. Photo: Northwestern Mutual We can all agree that there is one thing leaders are responsible for: leaving their organizations in a better position than when they started. But practically, what does that look like? To me, one answer belongs near the top: Relevance.
Don’t Ask For Trust, Become Trustworthy
"At Northwestern Mutual, we have seen that deep trust drives value for our company and the policyowners who own our mutual company," says John Schlifske. Photo: Northwestern Mutual Trust in business in the Covid-19 era is on the mend, according to PWC’s Trust in US Business Survey . Eighty percent of employees trust their company the same, or more, now than before the pandemic.

Opinion: Every kid in Milwaukee deserves a high-quality school. The abandonment of Milwaukee College Prep undermines that goal.
John E. Schlifske Today, just 8% of the students in the City of Milwaukee will earn both a high school diploma and a college degree. Equally horrifying, the majority of students in the City of Milwaukee are not at grade level proficiency in either reading or math. Unfortunately, this storyline is not new for Milwaukee students.

Is Milwaukee the next great technology hub? With a coordinated effort, it could be
Digital disruption and technology are transforming the way we communicate, educate, travel, bank and approach our health. While we all reap the benefits of these life-altering innovations, there’s even more to be gained if we all play a role in driving them — as citizens, employers and community leaders. When most people think about tech-heavy regions booming with new jobs and new industry, they think of places such as Silicon Valley. But Milwaukee? You better believe it.
Northwestern Mutual will preserve O'Donnell Park for everyone
On Monday, a Milwaukee County Board committee will debate the future of O'Donnell Park. As we've listened to the Milwaukee community and the board since offering to purchase O'Donnell in July, we've heard time and again how important it is to make the park a vibrant space that everyone can enjoy. Many of those I meet in the community ask what's behind this offer, and whether O'Donnell really will be open to all.
