10 Iconic 1990s Songs That Still Fill Every Dance Floor
1 day ago The 1980s were the best decade of The Far Side for one simple reason: there were just a heck of a lot more of them. Gary Larson’s comic strip debuted in 1980 in The San Francisco Chronicle and slowly expanded to more papers throughout the decade. Larson initially drew six cartoons a week before …
Actions versus words
Mr. Putin of Russia on Wednesday October 28, 2026, at the Russia-Africa Summit, asserted this about space operations: In orbit, it is very important not to interfere with one another and to adhere to certain rules, discipline, and order. Both we and our U.S. partners value this mutual understanding.

7 hours ago He had a T-shirt made. It's not entirely uncommon for hecklers and protesters to crash Donald Trump's rallies, but it's not often they manage to yell an insult that can be clearly heard throughout the stadium. In the clip above, Jimmy Kimmel plays footage of Trump's flow being interrupted by a man …
Forget equal application of the law
All teachers will not be teachers in Montgomery County, Maryland, a suburb of Washington D.C., if MoCo Councilmember Kate Stewart gets her way. Kate Stewart wants to create different classes of teachers: private school teachers versus public school teachers. Only teachers employed by MCPS, Montgomery County Public Schools, will get a property tax credit, according to a bill she recently introduced. Were we not taught in Civics class something about the equal application of the law?
The doomed efforts in Vietnam
On a blue sky day, October 21st, 1967, thousands converged around the Lincoln Memorial’s Reflecting Pool to express concern with LBJ’s strategy to stop the North Vietnamese communists from waging an insurgency to overthrow the recently created post-colonial nation of South Vietnam.
Another wrinkle in the COVID conspiracy
“There was a small group of people that knew Covid was coming before the rest of the world,” Bob Chapek, formerly with Disney, told the Wall Street Journal’s Ben Fritz. See the print edition, 9/25/26. Because this interview coincides with Mr. Chapek’s launch of his bitter memoir, Behind the Castle Walls, it may just be a provocative statement uttered to stimulate purchases of his new book. But if it is really true, and if he has proof, then by all means, we need to round up the usual suspects.
Egypt’s Luxury Property Builders Have Some Questionable Connections
As Washington intensifies scrutiny of Iran-linked shadow finance in the United Arab Emirates, the region’s booming property sector faces renewed questions over beneficial ownership, cross-border capital, and the people behind sophisticated real-estate brands. In Egypt, Horizon Egypt Developments offers a striking contrast between extraordinary public visibility and a less visible corporate architecture. Across Cairo, Horizon has made itself difficult to miss.
Is the new-new left beginning to devour itself?
Brutus was a member of the Roman Senate’s “deep state.” Every faction spawns fanatics who, to their peril, see only the facts that justify their zealotry. For today, here and now, we are being reminded again that the Dem’s deep state is real, embraced by real people concentrated in real places. One of those places is Montgomery County, Maryland, MoCo, a suburb of Washington, DC.
See Rahm Run
Rahm Emanuel, former mayor of Chicago and self-described crisis opportunist has, in the print edition dated Friday 9/18/26 in the once venerable Wall Street Journal, his 21st recent op-ed. In his last paragraph he says that the “Midwest is as wholesome as social media is toxic.” Is not Chicago in the Midwest? Which time in history is he talking about?
What about bad guesses?
Amazon’s “cloud” customers in the Middle East have been seriously inconvenienced by Iranian mayhem. AWS data centers in Bahrain and the UAE were badly damaged earlier this year by Iranian missile and drone attacks. When those data centers were built, what assumptions were made about regional stability? What risks were calculated? What risks were dismissed as too remote? There are more than 400 operating commercial nuclear reactors in more than 30 countries, plus hundreds of smaller research reactors.
Jury duty with a side of gender politics
A summons arrived for jury duty in a county circuit court within a state among the first thirteen. The envelope contained a form to return. After the boxes for “Full Name” came three boxes to indicate Gender: Male or Female or Other. What is truth? Welcome to the ascendancy of post-modernist philosophy and its thorough skepticism toward any possibility of objective truth.
Chief Justice Roberts applied the Frankfurter fix
FDR placed Felix Frankfurter on the Supreme Court as a reward for his careful orchestration and development of the legal maneuvers needed to get most of the New Deal through Congress and the courts. Most recently Amity Shlaes described his New Deal sophistry in her book “Great Society: A New History.” His most clever tactic was to label things as taxes rather than penalties or mandates, because the taxing power of Congress was clearly in the Constitution.
AI: Paradise lost or found?
Vice President J. D. Vance said to Bryce Crawford, a popular podcaster, that AI can be bad, which is just a dog bites man headline. But then the descriptor “satanic” popped up and, lo and behold, it went viral on the World Wide Web.
Run Rahm, run, but for whom?
Rahm Emanuel, former mayor of Chicago and one of Obama’s crisis opportunists, wrote an op-ed in the September 4, 2026, Wall Street Journal, headlined, “Lessons from Clinton to Cut Child Poverty,” marking Rahm’s 20th recent WSJ op-ed. It reads well and spins the Clinton-era welfare reform, which might have kept going in the right direction if the American people did not keep tinkering with our Constitution, here referring to Presidential term limits.

Democratic Socialism: If you like your god, you can keep your god
Socialism of the “Democratic Socialists of America” variety is scoring some victories lately. Is it socialism lite or the full-bodied strain? Let’s visit their website and see. On their home page: “Capitalism is a system designed by the owning class to exploit the rest of us for their own profit. We must replace it with democratic socialism, a system where ordinary people have a real voice in our workplaces, neighborhoods, and society.” Looks like heavy duty, no-fooling Marxist-Leninist socialism.
Democrats Are Perpetuating The Problems They Claim To Fix
The modern Democrat party has built its political power on promising government solutions to problems that its own policies often perpetuate. Whether the subject is foreign aid, hunger, unemployment, failing cities, or dependence on public assistance, Democrat politicians rarely ask what caused the problem or whether decades of government intervention have actually made it worse. Instead, they use suffering to demand more spending, more programs, and more centralized control.
Taxed out of house and home
How many people who worked hard to buy a home wanted to live in it always, but after retirement could not keep up with rising tax assessments despite senior discounts? So they have to sell to downsize, but they get socked with paying taxes on the capital gains, which were not really a real rise in value, but just the relentless drop in their dollars’ purchasing power.

‘Never again’ is being replaced by ‘almost here’
Mayor Mamdani has been encouraging New Yorkers to take to the streets to support the Palestinian cause and protest the fact that Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, will soon be coming to the United Nations. Two weeks before Mamdani started this effort to stir up an antisemitic mob, the Wall Street Journal published an essay about Germany forgetting the holocaust that Germans gave to the world in the name of National Socialism.
On the seventh day he did what?
The mayor of New York City told the New York Post he “notices” things, and that commences a seven day process for outreach. This he revealed when asked if a “homeless” urban camp at the west side of 46th street would ever be cleared for the safety of ordinary New Yorkers. As the New York Post recounts: ‘This site has been noticed and it will be cleared,’ the mayor said.
Democrats de-civilize Montgomery County’s parks and roads
Northwest of the D.C. Swamp’s center is Montgomery County (“MoCo”), Maryland. Rock Creek Park, where Woodrow Wilson walked alone and practiced his speeches aloud, connects D.C. to MoCo. One road, Beach Drive, parallels Rock Creek. In the 20th century, men regularly mowed most of the park with large, farm-quality tractors, leaving numerous sites for picnics and field sports.
Concrete Laundering In Iraq
In the high-stakes theater of Middle Eastern geopolitics, Washington has long relied on the U.S. dollar as its primary disciplinary tool. The logic is straightforward: cut off a rogue state, proxy network, or financial institution from the global dollar clearing system, and its ability to move capital across borders becomes harder, slower, and more expensive. It is an elegant strategy on paper. In Iraq, however, that logic has encountered a more adaptive system.
New Cuba Sanctions Broaden Targeting Authorities—and Risk to FFIs
On May 1, 2026, the Trump Administration escalated U.S. sanctions on Cuba by issuing Executive Order (E.O.) 14404, which, in part: (i) provides broad authority to designate parties determined to participate in key sectors of Cuba’s economy; and (ii) authorizes secondary sanctions against Foreign Financial Institutions (FFIs) engaged in certain dealings with parties sanctioned under E.O. 14404.E.O. 14404’s broad scope reflects the U.S. government’s resolve to pressure Cuba to reverse its...
