I always thought phrases like "dying from a broken heart" were just flowery devices used by poets and novelists. I never knew that stress, emotional suffering and heartbreak could lead to heart damage, but, it can. I'm not saying that is what led to William (Bill) Dillon's heart failing but I can't imagine that being locked up in prison 27 years for a murder he did not commit did his heart any favors. No, his heart clearly knew suffering and heartache.

William Dillon, who was wrongfully imprisoned for 27 years, recently received a successful heart transplant. Dillon was exonerated in 2008 after being convicted based on fraudulent evidence. Dillon was released from a California hospital on August 3 after the July 20 operation. I always thought phrases like "dying from a broken heart" were just flowery devices used by poets and novelists. I never knew that stress, emotional suffering and heartbreak could lead to heart damage, but, it can.
