Adult Child Estrangement: What to Do—and How to Hold On to Hope :: Dr. Jim Burns [Ep 587] - Podcast Playground

|
By Henry Cloud, John Townsend, Jim Burns Ph.D
| The Podcast Playground
What happens when our kids grow up and our role as their mom begins to change? This is something I think so many moms struggle with, but we don’t always talk about it. When our kids are young, there is so much support and conversation around parenting. But once they become adults, the challenges can feel much more complicated and lonely. We can find ourselves comparing our kids’ lives. Where did they go to college? Are they married? Do they have kids? What are they doing with their lives?

When Is A Party Required To Arbitrate?

|
By John Townsend, James Boykin, Gaela Gehring Flores, Rémy Gerbay
| Mondaq
Over the past few decades, arbitration agreements have become increasingly common in contracts between corporations, workers and customers. In fact, you've likely agreed to one in signing a generic consumer agreement or by checking a terms and conditions box. They are also commonplace within global contexts, such as in international contracts between foreign investors and sovereign nations.

What Business Sectors Use International Arbitration And Why?

|
By John Townsend, James Boykin, Gaela Gehring Flores, Rémy Gerbay
| Mondaq
What industries use international arbitration most frequently? International arbitration is used across a broad range of industries, but statistics from the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) — two prominent arbitration institutions — show that certain industries tend to utilize international arbitration more than others.

What Factors Should Be Considered When Choosing An Arbitrator?

|
By John Townsend, James Boykin, Rémy Gerbay, Sebastien Bonnard
| Mondaq
Arbitration is an increasingly popular method of dispute resolution because it puts clients in the driver's seat. Unlike domestic litigation, where the parties have virtually no control over the assignment of the judge who presides over their case, arbitration allows the parties to play a key role in selecting the ultimate decision-makers in the dispute.

Comparing Timelines: What Do Statistics Reveal About The Length Of International Commercial Arbitration Vs. U.S. Federal Litigation?

|
By John Townsend, James Boykin, Rémy Gerbay, Sebastien Bonnard
| Mondaq
Arbitration is sometimes touted as a more effective dispute resolution mechanism than litigation. In the U.S., one of the main reasons businesses build arbitration clauses into their contracts is the desire to avoid the lengthy and costly process of litigation. The American Arbitration Association (AAA) suggests that the average AAA arbitration (for domestic and commercial disputes) is resolved within 11.6 months, while the average U.S. federal court case can take 24 months just to get to trial.

Let David Warner captain

|
By John Townsend
It was nearly three years ago that David Warner played the straightest of straight bats to a media question on his continuing leadership ban in all forms of Australian cricket. Cricket Australia imposed a life captaincy ban on Warner for his role in the Cape Town sandpaper scandal in 2018, a penalty not imposed on fellow conspirators Steve Smith, the Test captain at the time, and Cam Bancroft. “I have to respect the decision and move on,” Warner said in 2019.

Every year on their birthday since they were children, identical twins Gina and Leni (Michelle Monaghan) have switched lives. Simply by restyling their hair, adding or removing a little eyeliner, and altering their speech patterns, they’ve successfully hidden this deception from family, friends, and, now, even their husbands. Stretched over seven episodes, with a number of distracting subplots, Echoes over-complicates its initially intriguing premise.

Suspended Peel footballer Michael Randall could start pre-season training next month if he receives the same penalty that applied to Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Michelle Payne in 2017. Payne was banned from riding for four weeks after testing positive to the banned weight-loss drug phentermine. Randall was stood down for the last match of the WAFL season in August after testing positive to phentermine in a match-day test a month earlier.

Ashes 2021-22: South Australian Alex Carey could follow Adam Gilchrist path to Test cricket at the Gabba

|
By John Townsend

Alex Carey is set to mirror wicket-keeping great Adam Gilchrist by making a Gabba Test debut after the contentious exit of a veteran predecessor. Carey, who is 30 and shares a birthday with Australia’s greatest cricketer Don Bradman, is the leading contender to replace Tim Paine in the first Ashes Test next month. Paine’s Test career appears to be over after he stood down from all cricket only two weeks before the start of the Ashes series.

Western Australia have lost two Sheffield Shield matches to Tasmania in a month after Sam Whiteman’s attempt to conjure a win in Hobart was thwarted by opposite number Jordan Silk. Saying that the target of 315 in 85 overs “wasn’t outrageous” after Whiteman declared at 7-226 in the morning session on Wednesday, Silk hammered 83 not out to lead his team to 6-318 and their second win of the season.

Jhye Richardson has torn through the Tasmania middle order to strengthen his bid to make a Test comeback at the Gabba next month. Bowling with considerable pace and gaining sharp swing in helpful conditions at Blundstone Arena on Tuesday, Richardson claimed 4-0 in 28 deliveries at the peak of a stunning burst that will maintain pressure on Mitchell Starc’s Ashes place. Richardson’s eventual haul of 4-53 helped reduce Tasmania to 315 before the WA top order extended the lead to 260 at stumps.

Chuck it up and spin it hard. Ashley Mallett gave the same advice to eager 14-year-old off-spinners as he did to hardened Test spinners with 100 wickets under their belts. Mallett, who died on Friday aged 76, was 12th man twice for Western Australia in the mid-1960s but the presence of spinning Tonies Lock and Mann persuaded him to move to Adelaide for more opportunities where he carved out a career as Australia’s best ever offie until the emergence of Nathan Lyon this decade.
