Development of a chemometric platform for mid-infrared fermentation monitoring
Abstract Industrial bioprocess development still depends heavily on off-line analytics such as HPLC, which, while accurate, are slow and limit real-time decision-making. Process Analytical Technologies (PAT) can overcome this barrier, with mid-infrared spectroscopy (mIR) offering fast, sensitive, and cost-effective monitoring.
Projected health benefits and cost offsets from the United States National Hepatitis C Elimination Initiative
Abstract Over 2 million Americans were estimated to have chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) in 2020. The national hepatitis C elimination initiative provides an opportunity to dramatically expand access to HCV treatment nationally. Using a validated microsimulation model, we projected the health benefits and cost savings of the proposed US national hepatitis C elimination initiative compared with the status quo from 2025 to 2044.
Towards hepatitis C elimination with integrated risk-based screening and decentralized care in Taiwan
|
Abstract Chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection remains a major cause of liver disease worldwide and requires effective strategies to achieve elimination targets. Taiwan has a substantial HCV burden, with prevalence varying by region; in Changhua County, prevalence was 4.3% before large-scale intervention.

Stoke-on-Trent's Melvyn Downes says former prince Andrew 'had it coming'
Stoke-on-Trent's SAS Who Dares Wins TV star Melvyn Downes has launched a blistering attack on former prince Andrew who he called an 'arrogant, arrogant man'. Stoke City fan Downes, 60, who served in the Army for 24 years and 12 in the SAS after growing up in Bentilee, said that he met Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, while he was serving as a soldier in the Staffordshire Regiment.

Bottom-up computational design of shape-selective organic macrocycles for humid CO2 capture - Nature Chemistry
Abstract The capture of CO2 emissions using porous solids is challenging because polar water molecules bind more strongly in most materials than non-polar CO2 molecules. This is a challenge for both flue gas capture and for direct air capture alike. Here we develop a bottom-up computational screening workflow to calculate the binding energy of 27,446 diverse molecular fragments with both CO2 and water.
Autonomous mobile robots for exploratory synthetic chemistry - Nature
Abstract Autonomous laboratories can accelerate discoveries in chemical synthesis, but this requires automated measurements coupled with reliable decision-making1,2. Most autonomous laboratories involve bespoke automated equipment3,4,5,6, and reaction outcomes are often assessed using a single, hard-wired characterization technique7. Any decision-making algorithms8 must then operate using this narrow range of characterization data9,10.
SUC1’s mode of low-affinity transport - Nature Plants
The new structure for the H+-coupled sucrose uptake transporter AtSUC1 helps us understand the mechanism used by plants for cellular sucrose uptake and phloem loading. Plants transport fixed carbon from ‘sources’ such as photosynthetic leaves or storage tissue to support the growth of ‘sinks’ such as roots, developing leaves, seeds, flowers and fruit. Vascular tissue, called the phloem, carries out this long-distance transport and most plants transport sucrose as the form of fixed carbon.
Enzymatic synthesis of benzylisoquinoline alkaloids using a parallel cascade strategy and tyrosinase variants - Nature Communications
Abstract Benzylisoquinoline alkaloid derived pharmaceuticals are widely applied in modern medicines. Recent studies on the microbial production of benzylisoquinolines have highlighted key biological syntheses towards these natural products. Routes to non-natural benzylisoquinolines have been less explored, particularly halogenated compounds which are more challenging.
pET expression vector customized for efficient seamless cloning
Rapid advances in next-generation sequencing technologies have generated vast amounts of genomic sequence data that represent a rich source for bioprospecting for enzymes for industrial biotechnology applications. In order to speed up enzyme discovery and functional analysis, tools and protocols for high-throughput cloning are necessary. A variety of cloning strategies have been developed for creating protein expression constructs for structural and functional studies [1].

Virus lasers for biological detection
Abstract The selective amplification of DNA in the polymerase chain reaction is used to exponentially increase the signal in molecular diagnostics for nucleic acids, but there are no analogous techniques for signal enhancement in clinical tests for proteins or cells. Instead, the signal from affinity-based measurements of these biomolecules depends linearly on the probe concentration.
Asymmetric α-arylation of amino acids
Quaternary amino acids, in which the α-carbon that bears the amino and carboxyl groups also carries two carbon substituents, have an important role as modifiers of peptide conformation and bioactivity and as precursors of medicinally important compounds1,2. In contrast to enantioselective alkylation at this α-carbon, for which there are several methods3,4,5,6,7,8, general enantioselective introduction of an aryl substituent at the α-carbon is synthetically challenging9.
